Recommendation for the new wardrobe: Make these limbs either optional to wear (so you don't need an item to cover them - just make them not show) or, probably better: make the limbs not part of the "body" at all anymore, and provide everyone with a box of all the limb pieces as wearables (in all colors of course).
200-something extra items is nothing compared to most of our wardrobe sizes, and it would make the whole system so much more flexible because you could just not wear those with the new sweaters (you'd just wear the upper arm of whatever your base color is)...
Another option is to have wearable bases in the new poses. (Again, be sure to provide *all* colors) This would let people layer a background over the "real" base and the posed base over that (for backgrounds that cover the whole avatar, which a lot do)...

I'm eager to see how some of Subeta's more creative players are able to layer these pieces, since I'm not creative at all and am basically a sheep. Baaaa.

The weirdest thing is calling staff "sketchy" over this. If the pens were CS stuff so you couldn't get the cardigans to work without spending real money, then sure. But these are all items that can be bought with a little questing and a little restocking.

@MagnusTheRed is there a simple trick I'm not seeing that makes the cutout backgrounds significantly easier to pull off? It seems to me that a cutout background is ust as
3
monie
@MagnusTheRed I'm confused what you mean? The backdrop in my example doesn't have cutouts, it's set beneath the base. I layered gloves and smoke on top of the HA.

Check out the thread, I've posted an optional line of code that should give all transparent HAs around the site a white background.

@monie It works with the old backgrounds, sure, but most items released or being revamped now don't have cutouts. Sucks if you find a perfect background item - especially since most of the good interior backgrounds are new - and it just doesn't work.

Seriously, “White knighting”? That’s just people disagreeing with you. If your criticism of staff is then criticized or countered that is just as fair as the original criticism. People are gonna agree or disagree and if you post in the first place getting a disagreeing response is fair game. Let’s not turn this site into Total Drama Subeta where every user is For or Against absolutely everything staff on this site does. They’re just a new experimental item, not some grand conspiracy for or against the user base.
Also @Muerte thanks for making me laugh, I haven’t seen that gif in ages.

These look so cozy, I love the poses and I'm excited about the upcoming items in store
This doesn't mean no backgrounds, this means more items with interesting poses. I'm sure we'll get some items with convenient placement too.
It's not exactly a thematic combination of items, but for example
These don't all work all by themselves, but say you got the bottom half with a skirt + the top with hair... I think some items like counters look a lot better with hands raised up!
I personally think some long sleeves look like little ruffley capes

Thank you to those who created outfits with these new cardigans because i was confused: i didn't understand what they were supposed to be doing.... now i get it - new poses.
i want them all, 2 of each. lol

This isn't that bad. I have some regrets posting now that the salt has ebbed away a bit and I dread any potential response, but I've seen worse. We don't have anybody who has declared that they are blocking people, Staff hasn't deleted any comments, and we aren't at 200 comments yet.

i agree with people saying all these polarizing news aren't a good enough reason for users to scratch each other's eyes out, but i also think "he fought to death in subeta news comment section" would look hilarious on my tombstone

Why are half of the people here always mad and the other half suck ups? Isn't anyone else here to play a game? Lol. I'm a little old for a flashback of everything I hated about high school. Where's the love? Peace, Love, Rainbows and Unicorns :)

there are better solutions to the issue so i'm kinda mad that they're still going with the whiteout even after all the comments on the pens' post

..."white knights" comment aside,Sure do love being able to fairly critique staff on something sketch like this as Hanzo said without all the white knights comin' to defend them needlessly because staff are adults and can handle criticism like adults. It's a real nice feelin'.
1. How are these any "sketchier" than + others that also require at least a second item to function properly?
2. Literally what is there to actually critique about these items? The art is fine. The whiteout pens are fine. I don't remember ever seeing anyone complaining about not being able to hide only specific limbs of the HA and now suddenly it's "a problem that this is a bandaid fix for"
Like, if you (general you) have an actual critique or a better suggestion, that's fine, but how are y'all not exhausted about being bitter over an item that happens to not work for you? Not to mention that someone already posted an HA using one of the cardigans without using the whiteouts, so I mean, it's entirely possible to still make use of the cardigans and potential future wearables that make use of the whiteout pens, without actually using the whiteout pens. Sure, it's going to take a little more creativity but it's not like these items are locked away from you forever?

While some people think that HAs without background look unfinished, I like HAs without backgrounds; a lot of backgrounds ARE super busy and the HA doesn't quite pop out as it should.
I like these items. Very creative!

Also, pretty bold to make assumptions on the user base's general interest based on some comments from a couple of news posts.
So, I think it's important for the staff to know that a sizeable portion of users are not interested in items that require the use of the pens

The only background-friendly option that I could see would have to be implemented in the wardrobe itself, as you can't "erase" part of the base image with a new item. The base would have to be uploaded in pieces, which you could toggle on or off to suit your needs, as a couple of people have suggested in this thread already.
TLDR this would be a lot of work.

Also these...are coming out in the regular restocking shops so they'll be super affordable at some point. It's not like this is a recycle points or (pls no) a BHH item. (And even those come down in price eventually.)

I always use background BUT there are now a bunch of foreground items that can be used in combination for cool effects too. Excited to see these new pose items coming out!

You know, I think with these I'd be willing to try the whiteout items. These are adorable, and I've wanted a body mod item for a long time without dropping CSC for them. Thank you!

@Valiska
I use night mode too. You just have to put behind everything to make a nice bright backdrop for the HA. I haven't tried out the new items yet but I've made use of the Whiteout in that way before with other HAs that didn't look right against the nightmode background. Maybe it's not a look you'd personally go for but it resolves the "looking stupid" issue.

I don't think that a handful of naysayers should prevent creative items like the whiteout pens from being created. There are over 30,000 wearable items. It's a given that not every single one of those is going to look perfect with every single other one or in every situation or whatever but I don't understand the intense backlash for the pens at all

@Allegria, @Atomic, @Palpatine -
You're not wrong in saying that nobody's being forced to buy or use anything, but even users who don't prefer using non-whited out backgrounds with their HAs look stupid to people who are viewing the site on night mode when they use those #$@#%##@ pens.
So, I think it's important for the staff to know that a sizeable portion of users are not interested in items that require the use of the pens because they don't like having to use no non-white background items, they prefer night mode, or they just don't like looking like idiots to people who do use night mode.
Also speaking of Masquerade, how's those whiteout pens gonna look on the dance floor?

They're cute. but HAs without backgrounds look very unfinished, so hard pass. The only time I ever don't use a background is when the coding that keeps backgrounds from showing up on the Masq dance floor is not actually working.

Galadriel
I'm excited to see items like the arm and leg mods from previous Masq years, except without all that extra fabric. It'll be nice to have some more versatile items, even if it's going to be difficult to use backgrounds with them.

i honestly can't believe how after all this time ppl have the nerve to call subeta staff sketchy. come on these are cute and not everything has to be for everyone
23
Mackenzi
@youngexplorer The cardigans are meant to have arms, they’re completely covered in fabric, so if you don’t use the whiteout with them your HA has 4 arms! I am gonna guess there will be more items released to use with the whiteout, so we can have even more fancy arm and leg poses.

I'm with User not found: atomic - these are just another option to use what we have in a different way. I do use BGs quite a bit, but I also love body mods (I've done several as CWs), so I'm intrigued about new clothing that could benefit from the whiteout pens. I'm willing to give them a shot. These sweaters are cute, and a great first attempt at something new.
The site artists have churned out thousands upon thousands of wearables within the narrow constraints of the current HA and wardrobe system, so I'm happy to sit back and let them play around with something new. There will always be waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more universally wearable items compared to those that require the pens, after all.

Nobody's being "forced" to use any of these items...
Many items get released that I have no interest in using. It's still ok for them to exist for other people.

The shawls are gorgeous; however, I honestly don't get those Whiteout Pens. Why would you want to look armless?
2
Kinky
Yeah, my background mean more to me than these. Why force us to buy something extra? You've made posed sweaters before. These are cute, but not if I can't use a background.
3
Chelsea
Why not keep the same base, but be able to select a “different” one without limb(s)? So you have the exact same base, but erase each limb individually. You can switch between bases, not have to change wearables, and not have additional unrequited items while still maintaining a transparent background. It’s literally just erasing. This opens more opportunities.

@Hanzo
Holy crap, I didn't even think of that. But yeah now if you wanna make these work you need 3 items in total instead of just 1 and that's really sketchy.
@Blackjack
100% agree. I'm sad I can't use these, but I like my backgrounds too much to give them up for a small selection of items.

I'm excited for all the upcoming limb pose options now, these cardis and whiteout pens are the start of something cool. Big thanks to the artists! (can we get other colouroptions for the whiteout pens tho?)

Eivor
Oof, nice way to basically force getting GAs to get some certain wearables to work correctly. Because I can see these eating up layers upon layers.
6
Synth
I don't think this is a "problem that's going to get fixed"; that would be too much of an undertaking. They're just trying to give us more ways to work with what we've got. I love my backgrounds too but I don't see another feasible way to make this work...the whiteout items have to be opaque or they wouldn't block out the body. I'm excited to see what all we can do with them!
18
Darkrai
@Sigilmancy Unfortunately there's no way to make an item that would make parts of the base transparent with the way the HA works. It would be possible to (maybe) split the HA base into pieces or release items like the for other body parts so you could cover/hide the Default Base behind a backdrop and still show the body parts you want to use but an item like the whiteout pen that makes the base itself transparent isn't possible
5
Mackenzi
I have been imagining something like this for a while, thank you for the option! These arms actually look pretty good too. Like, proportionately. A very cool item.
8
Sigilmancy
So items that are impossible to wear and look normal without the whiteout items, but because the whiteout items are white and not transparent you also can't have a full background with them without it being obvious you used the whiteout items to make the cardigan look good.....Like others have said, seems like a temporary solution to a problem that should actually be addressed instead of pushing band-aid fixes.
The art on these is really nice and honestly I wish I could use them, but I also love the dynamic atmosphere having a background gives me more so I just can't until we get ways to make the body parts actually transparent instead of white blobs :/

@Crone there are 32,783 wearables according to Subetalodge (and not counting CWs) so it's probably safe to say alternate base poses are out of the question
18
SYLVAN
Sorry Subeta, but i'm just too in love with my landscape backgrounds to let them go. Would it be possible to make a second base option that has an arms on hips pose like that? Like how we can switch out skins, maybe we can switch out bases too?

Thanks for the explanation...though I am also going "Whoo, now my HA can have four arms but only two are in a cardigan!"
