On the contrary I'm surprised it took this long for them to do a kanis. It seems to be one of the pets that gets the most (non-new colours) focus these days, at least since I've been back off hiatus.

I love the fact that Sandwort has a natural bunny nose, unlike all other Kanis! I still hope this will be implemented one day for this species ♥

My mom used to volunteer with educational programs at the local zoo back in the 80s. Of all the animals my mom got to work with, she told me the only animal that ever scratched her was a rabbit. If a rabbit can get their back legs under them, they can tear up tender bits with their claws.

Yes, I'll admit that you were right. Again, I was thrown off by the fact that we had a Kanis theme in April so I thought that if you didn't have a Kanis challenger then, you wouldn't have one at all.
though I do think this would've made sense for April. Don't know about Monty Python enough, but with this guy being called Sandwort and being so scarred and having a blind left eye, I could've sworn it was a Woundwort reference. :') still though, loving the artwork!
My first thought seeing this was seeing is a mash up of Bigwig and Woundwort from Watership Down. Love it’s design :)
I failed to guess Kanis for this because I thought we weren't getting a Kanis challenger at all because it would have made more sense for that to have been in April when the monthly theme was Kanises and rabbits. So I was thrown off.
OMG Holy Grail reference. I didn't think Kanis would be the answer to a Delphi challenger BUT I am not disappointed!
