ToT items from 2022 and 2021 are not in the same houses they used to be, so you'll have to find out how they are currently sorted on your own/with other users!

Adding my voice to those who want more new items and fewer old items.
I've decided I'm giving up on TOT until Amber 'fixes' it. I don't really need a lot of the old items like I need several copies of the new ones that I'm not getting at all. It just feels like I'm wasting my time refreshing to get non-expired links and getting nothing that I want or need.
Not getting ANY new items, it's been the same 8-10.
ToTing is giving me 'item not found' errors more often than not. :/

I've barely gotten the new items, even WITH people tot-ing me (thanks tot guide) and ever since the old items got added to the pool all I get ARE the old items.. All for new/returning players getting stuff they missed and whatnot but i think the chances need to be tweaked a little

To add to my previous post, I was looking at the user price of new items.
The 4 items in group 12 (which is the majority of the people) are worth aroung 3-4k.
In the other 11 groups, most items currently have a minimum user price of 100k with several still in the millions.

The arguments of "newer and reuring users are probably happy for the amount of old items" is kind of moot when all they're getting is spellweave tops too. I have a friend who made his account about 5 years ago but was never active and this year he's really getting into Subeta but all he's getting is the spellweave tops too and he's frustrated.
I didn't really want to complain, but it's getting to the point where it is kind of frustrating now. I get not wanting everyone to get all of the new items in the first couple of days, but now we're halfway through the event and there are still some new items in the millions of sP range in user shops. I've been ToT-ing pretty much all weekend, targeting the specific houses/groups I need items from (so not even trying to blame random ToT or anything), and yet I've gotten what feels like maybe 5(?) of the new items in the past couple of days. And it's just kind of annoying to come back to the comments where it feels like concerns are being ignored in favor of "this is just how it's going to be this year" :/
Besides the seemingly lower possiblity of getting new items and the deflation in the worth of older items (loss of profit on anything we saved to resell or loss of worth if we were gifting), the skew of people getting tot'd is ridiculous. The majority of us are group 12, so the few people in all the other 11 groups will have the majority of extra new items because everyone is toting them and they get an extra item every 5th tot. No one needed to tot anyone from group 12 after day one because we all had the 4 items there.
If new/returning people want last years items, they can just... buy them? There are absolutely morostide items that are old and unpurchasable at this point, but they're from like 2013. Candy Skull Beanbags have a now unachievable achievement. But no, 30 spellweave tops for everyone.
This years item's are so awesome, absolutely love all the pumpkin patch ones, and I don't mind at all that there are less this year than previously (i would not have even realized that if it hadn't been announced). I think it feels an awful lot like if I want this years adorable items, I'm going to have to pick them up next year when they are distributed at the same frequency as last year's spellweave tops and long lurbys.

Having the number of new items spread evenly over the 12 groups automatically creates an imbalance. How many (active) users are there in groups 1-4? I would assume that a majority of (active) users is in the groups 8 or higher, so the majority of items should be given out via those groups. I also spent several days now trying to tot' only at group 1, and haven't gotten all of the new items yet.

Letting people have a chance at older items is good and all but one has to realize that FOUR years worth of old items is ludacris, right? I'm a returning player, I don't need four years worth of old stuff, Its insane
Too bad im literally getting the same like 6 things nonstop from Toting 95% of the time.... Wosh you guys had done the algorithms nuch better this year :( even random toting is giving me the same crap
It's gotten better but I still run into times where I get the same item multiple times in a row. I don't know if it just my bad luck or small item pool... I'm just random toting like I normally do though yeah, new items seem scarce (not the barbarian doll or cherry hat gummy as those two seem to be the new ones I get multis of back to back lol). Not good for my hoarder self. I say as I stuff the multis of old items into my vault to never see the light of day again
I'm done ToTing. I bought 99% of the new items I needed. It's not fair to have the new items go out the odd time so the value doesn't decrease, but it's ok for the older items to go out all the time to make them barely worth anything? I hope next year will be better
I know you hat giving the newbies and returning players a chance to get old stuff is good…..but I’m pretty sure they’d like to get the new stuff too and not a billion copies of the Pastel Witch Purple Spellweave Top. Which I’ve been getting over and over no matter who I tot.
I don't mind the older items so much, but having four years worth of tot items active at the same times is madness. All things being equal that gives us about a 1 in 7 chance of getting something new, except there is something seriously wonky going on, so in reality it's even less than that.
Have the 2024 items go out with one other year's items. Change that other year every day or two. It's so dispiriting the way it is now.

You can tell, people are desperately trying at their preferred group and not using Random ToT (much), because I wake up to 1 or no events...

Something is seriously off this year with the toting. Ive gotten almost none of the new items. Its so bad It almost feels glitched out.
I'm not complaining about old tot items, I'm fragging them. Everything has value to someone in some form.

We'll take this under consideration for next year, and how we stage the items. However, a few things to keep in mind:
1. There are still a significant number of new users, or returning users, who don't have extensive backlogs of items from previous years. To them, old items are still new items
2. If we had priority on new items, they'd flood the market and become worthless in a few days

Hmm, I don't really need any old ideas because if I wanted them I would have bought them when they were new. Still need new books.
Does that mean, instead of upping the chance of getting this year's ToT items, these are now competing with even more old stuff? Why didn't you withdraw 2023, like you did with the Patch? Which, btw., is pretty biased itself. Of the 3 books I get one repeatedly, while the other 2 are extremely rare.

In 2 days I've gotten one new item off ToT and a bunch of old stuff..I appreciate what we're trying to do here by giving old items but I'd like to get new stuff too, and not have to wait until next year when it's a rerun to do so lol
Honestly if all we are gonna get is the old worthless items then at least cut the timer already so we can try to get the new stuff before th holiday ends!
Pumpkin Patch has been giving new-to-me items since it's 2018 and 2024. It's been great! ToT, however, is a mess with four years of items in the mix. Hopefully ToT gets shaken up soon.
I'll be holding off ToTing for a while as I'm getting only old items.

I understand trying to get old stuff back into rotation but the lack of new stuff is frustrating. Can you just take out some of the old stuff? The new stuff is so rare that the price isn’t coming down. The only positive for me right now is that I have a ton of stuff to frag
I'm super frustrated with the ToTing. I keep tons of old items and hardly any new items. I get TONS of older items (mainly pastel witch), so I ended up buying all the new items. Another user was very kind and sent me some of the newer food items

I'm retired so can dod ToT or the Pumpkin Patch many times in a day. I keep getting multiples of the same items.

since the change, and I’ve probably only tot’d 15 times or so since the change.

Also if it helps any, there are achievements for having your house egged/tp'd a set number of times, achievements for egging/tp'ing a number of times, and two items to be found (a sad egg and sad tp roll) at random while doing the associated activities. I feel like some users might be doing what I'm doing, which is ToT-ing and then egging the same house to get the achievements for egging a set amount of times. Saves time versus posting in the egg/tp threads, and since I have all the achievements for having other people hit me and it's harmless/doesn't do anything except give the alert.

I don’t think anyone means it negatively. It is just another fun way to ‘trick’ instead of treat and be a part of the festivities. I see it as more of a way to joke around with friends and it’s actually a funny surprise when I see I’ve been egged or TPd so I would not take it personally or as an insult if that is what you were asking. Just another way to have fun!

Thank you for the update. I am wondering about something related, that is if it means people don't like you if they tp or egg your house a lot. I do one time when I see the events, delete, and then if I see more, do one again, but to be clear, I'm not upset with the person, I just like to balance, and it feels odd not doing that when they dit it. I know there are achievements, and I don't even mind people doing that to my house, just with it being so many, I didn't know if it was something with me as well. I have trouble with this kind of stuff, how it all works, I'm sorry.

SOOO hyped for the older food :'') feeding my main pet one of everything has been as huge project for me this past year so being able to get some of the more expensive stuff I still need for free is a blessing. Even if I don't get everything personally hopefully it'll bring some prices down! Thanks guys!!! <3

thank you for the opportunity to get the older items!! what a fun way to change up the item selection throughout the holiday. i'm excited about the new ToT items and i love the sweaters! and i've got a few foods from the patch from previous years that i have been needing so that has been really nice. thank you all the staff for keeping the site up and running after all these years and thank you for your hard work!

I didn't say it before, but y'all gotta be patient. I have some plans that will ensure you will get newer items, but right now, it's a matter of getting some old things out for a few rounds. :P I'm not going to leave everyone high and dry. I appreciate you all being worried and bringing up those concerns, but I promise things will work out.

There will be a few more rounds of old items being reintroduced to Pumpkin Patch and ToT. We want y'all have a chance at a lot of older things. We still have about 10 days. That means we still have challengers, we still have skins to come (in the next 24 hours but you didn't hear it from me!!!! if i don't break things lol), and other stuff. I'm not trying to trick y'all, it's going to be a treat! I PROMISE.I was using the group list for TOT on the forums to try & get the last few items I want (mostly books), but finally gave up because I didn't have any luck & doing random TOT now. Sorry, but I am so sick of the fascinate masks, witch tops & witch hats, I have tons of those. Looking forward to the rag doll achievement being activated and see if there are any new skins.
I'm also seeing way more old items than new, and "random ToT" being people who are actively using the site... evidenced by the fact that I don't receive '5 visitor' notifications unless I'm actively using the site. I've not been doing forum trades this year since that's also heavily weighted to other active group 12ers. When I use the list of people who have signed up saying they're 1-11ers, I've been getting hexed about 50-80% of the time (which, tbf is awesome as I've not yet got that achievement, but I'm about to, and then it will suck lmao). And the remaining times where I do get items, its heavily weighted to be old items.
There might be 'way more group 1-5' users, but If I can't find them, and they don't show up in the random ToT pool, then it doesn't matter. This is exasperated by not being able to see what pets everyone has on their profiles, pets that do have profiles not always listing what species they are, and users not having the ToT option on their profiles. With the ToT links being keyed to prevent autoclicker exploit (i assume), I'm not even sure if there's a way to ToT a user manually?

Whether random TOT or friend TOT, I seem to only get Pastel Witch Pink Spellweave Top. Am I doing something wrong?

Apologies for a double post, but just realised an error in my earlier comment - only 1 of the 5 bonus 5th TOT'er items was a new item (Sour Cherry Gummy Witch Hat). Brain blip meant I just counted the 5 events without checking the item given.
And 17 of the "Sour Cherry Gummy Witch Hat" does seem suspiciously high, although I don't recall buying any I could have unthinkingly bought some really underpriced ones. The other group 12 items I'm certain are from random TOTing and are still very over represented.

Special request for Honey Jelly Pumpkin to make a comeback. It's an achievement item as well.
@Amber - Didn't catch your earlier comment saying there's a lot of users in groups 1-5 vs group 12, but from my random TOTing up until now it's still been seemingly insanely biased towards group 12. Is random TOT completely random or is it weighted towards recently active users, that kind of thing, which may be skewing what items are being received?

@PiinkSparkles We just don't have the manpower to do a whole set like we have in the past. And honestly, the artists have been burned out doing the carvings. As you can see with new tot and pumpkin patch items this year, we're trying really hard to scale back on new items so artists can also have time for pets, projects, etc.

As far as getting new items - you have to take into consideration that there weren't all that many new items this year in terms of going to each house. The pool is a bit greater right now for each house which means there's more competition. Items in ToT aren't weighted.
Also just to reiterate, group 12 is actually not the group with the most users. :)

Here's another interesting thing: the only rag dolls I'm getting from 2023 are the four that are held in the avatar's right hand and tow of those seem to be super common (send help, I have so many Special Agent Rag Dolls). I've not seen a single one of any of the other four. Were they not included this time?
I think people being frustrated with the grouping this year is pretty fair, I'm all for trying new ways to spice up potentially stale holiday mechanisms, but it's been really heavily skewed towards/against group 12.
Up until now I've been random TOTing exclusively, without really paying much attention to which items it's been giving. Being curious I went to check how many of the new items I'd gotten by now (account search using the item list in the forum TOT guide) and was unpleasantly surprised.
Despite using random TOT regularly throughout the day, since the start of Morostide, I've only ended up with 13 items total from groups 1-11 combined. That's compared with 32 from just group 12 (5 of those have been bonus 5th TOT'er items, as I'm also group 12).

i appreciate the fragging fodder/food to give to charity next month, but maybe we could turn off 2023 items? just speaking for myself here but i feel like there may be enough in circulation! 😅
@toilet , in my post below I specifically state that even when purposefully choosing to trick-or-treat at the houses that give out the items i'm looking for i'm still drowning in older items. And no, one is not guaranteed the item after only a handful of trips (unless you have stellar luck). In fact, i've been TOTing since the start of the event, which has been nearly a week, and still haven't snagged the items I need. It's not complaining to point out facts. If the new system works for you then that's great, but it's not working for everyone and people have a right to say so as long as they're respectful about it. I mean nothing ill-willed by this post and do not seek to argue, only to relay my own experience to any staff that may be listening and to let others who are having difficulties know that they're not alone in their observations.

The "[holiday activity] the user above you" threads are a mainstay for a reason. The problem is that there's never been this big of a problem with this many people all giving out the same items. If they wanted to adjust rarity curves and make some items rarer than others, there are better ways to do it (like just adjusting item drop rates on the backend).
It's not bad because it's ~*hard*~, it's bad because it's turned the holiday threads and the random feature (which you're incentivized to use by the lowered cooldown) are wastes of time when they never were in prior years.

you guys, it really isnt that hard to get the new items. yes you cant participate in the above boards and expect to get the majority of the new items, or random tot. you got to seek out people who are in those groups, which conveniently there's a thread on the morostide section that has those users/groups. i for one appreciate the different way to tot, maybe it couldve used a little tweaking but some items are meant to be rarer than others, everyone is able to get every single item from toting this year, all you got to do it look on the thread or look for those people who are in those specific groups. im sure there is a reason why they changed up the way to get the items this year and they have their reason, YES its not what we are used to but, its really not that much more complex, imo its actually easier because theres not so many items and youre basically guaranteed the item after toting a handful of times to the same person/group. so instead of whining about can we just be happy and have fun and enjoy the older items being released too in waves because - thats awesome too. why do we have to complain every single event about something. end rant before i get in trouble
Even when I trick-or-treat from houses that I need specific treats from, i'm still drowning in pastel witch tops, lurbies and other hauntings of the past. I feel like the odds of getting new treats is quite low compared to the odds of getting treats from previous years, and since there are still so many new items that I need (some of which multiples are needed for both feeding and wearing) it's proving to be a bit of a bummer. Hopefully my luck will get better before the festivities end. Looking forward to getting my hands on some of those old books though! :ghost:
I just want to add, because I just checked after posting my first comment. I generally put every holiday item on my wishlist just to keep track of them... and in several days of random ToTs, I've gotten one (1) single non-group-12 2024 Trick of Treat item.
I thought I had gotten more, but it's because the pumpkin patch is doing fine and I think I've gotten some past years items from other groups, but this is really rough. I realize that I'm just one user providing anecdata, and that I haven't been doing it SUPER actively, but it's never been this outrageously lopsided. It doesn't help that this (again) basically soft-disincentivizes doing ToT threads.
Again: I really appreciate how much the team does and I don't want to sound like I'm just whining, but these groupings are really, really bad.

I definitely appreciate the year rotation! It was always a little frustrating in past years to only be able to get that year and the previous year's, so I really appreciate that!
But that said... I feel like even if the numbers work out in theory for how many users are in what ToT groups, you can still see that the item distribution is skewing really, really unevenly. Like, all of the the group 12 items cost like 2k sP in user shops, and it feels like they're the only things I ever get unless I'm specifically using users who are known to be in other groups (so no "ToT the user above you" threads and no random ToTs), and some of the other otherwise-identical items are still up in the multi-millions.
I really appreciate the work you guys do, and I realize it's probably too late to change it for this year, but I think this was absolutely not a fair distribution, and I really hope the groups don't stay this way next year. :/

Will the 2018 items be brought back at any point? I think even with the Carnival those items are still rare and expensive.

@Haswari @Dice That's why I've added more items into each pool for the different groups. There are actually a lot of users in groups 1-5, as well. Like more in those than group 12. Trick or treat doesn't actually have weighted items within groups. The pumpkin patch prioritizes newer items over older, but ToT doesn't. I also try to keep the number of items as close to possible for each group.

I think the TOT randomizer needs some adjusting... I'm getting the same items repeatedly since so many people are in group 12. I feel like a lot of the TOT items are gonna come in way smaller numbers than previous years because of this, so the prices aren't going to be great later.
ToT items from 2022 and 2021 are not in the same houses they used to be, so you'll have to find out how they are currently sorted on your own/with other users!

@Sweetheart who doesn't love a lil spooky! Bringing back rotating items in short bursts also keeps y'all on your toes and helps fill up some space since we did less items for both areas this year!
