Oh fun, a flying squirrel! To anyone who hasn't seen one before, I suggest people look up colugos. Weird critters!

> OMG I love it! And I'm not a huge fan of pokopos! But.. why blue?
Popokos are from Atebus and the blue picked looks similar to the Ikunananananabeenox tree

Subeta is also a world in which magic exists, so if you don't have a hard answer for anything "Idk magic" is valid enough lol
Anyway, I love how fluffy the underside looks, I want to pet its tummy ~

OMG, It a mix of emolga and pachirisu and i love it. I will name it george and i will hug him and pet him and squeeze him <3 It is adorable

Oh the pigment could be easy to answer! It's likely as Popoko settled here on Subeta, they began to favor more natural-looking fur color for better protection from predators on Subeta as opposed to Atebus landscape, especially since they ditched the gliding trait.

I mean some wild animals just look happy. For example the quokka!
also i am not a scientist idk how they got their current coloring!!!

Ahh, now thats an interesting concept for it.
I've just more felt they were kind of supposed to be "primordial" and thus wild and fierce ... the smile just throws me off lol but it is cute!

Glad I read the comments. I had no idea the Popoko was from Atebus and was VERY confused about the color. I understand it now, although I am not a big fan of it. I also agree with the comment, why does it look so cheerful instead of "wild"... Its cute and all, but not fierce or wild looking with that smiling face. I really do love the fact that the wild Popoko is a flying squirrel :D

That's the fun of this site, even if there's not a concrete answer, you can just make up something to be your answer until maybe an official answer is made. Remember when the Jollin was first introduced? It was said to hail from Arctic Frost, but it was later retconned to be a Sacred Lands native.

If I had to guess, the modern day Popoko probably lost the need to glide, especially the ones that settled on Subeta itself. What would be that reason? Gliding is a form of travel between trees and escaping predators as seen in our own flying squirrels on earth. Perhaps the modern day Popoko dropped this ability if it determined it was not necessary to spec into this trait any further. It's already a sufficiently quick, nimble creature on the ground and a great climber, and gliding would be a waste if trees are too spaced out for gliding to be effective. As for predatory escape, it's likely the Popoko used to have a predator to worry about on Atebus, but it may have gone extinct, which allowed the Popoko to drop a trait it no longer had use for.

Also love the touch that it doesn't have a collar. Love the design!

ohhhh they're ikumoradeekanox blue..........!!!! i actually love the colour, but i do kinda selfishly wish they were more "alien"-looking, or at least had more of an indication that they're not "of" subeta :eyes: the gliding membrane is a great idea though.........

I assume the color is because it's not from Subeta!
> The popoko is unique in that it is the only organic pet to come not from Subeta, but from Atebus! The first popoko were discovered quite by accident - a group of these rowdy little rodent-like creatures had hitched a ride on a shuttle from Atebus to Subeta, and the travelers had quite the surprise when they found popoko cuddled up among their belongings!

Very cute and I like the position and gliding. But not the color. A bit too neon for me. Would have liked it better toned down a bit. But I just used my last 2 pet slots to get the new spectrum and blacklight popokos.

...Why is it Kanis Blue when the common is a light tan? I'm also side-eyeing the face because it's far too friendly looking. Every other wild pet has been fierce or wild looking. Yes, this is a squirrel, but have you ever seen angry squirrels or been bitten by one? Suddenly they're no longer cute.
