I've made a few... fun changes to the Free Shop!
Now all the free items are hidden in boxes, so everyone has a chance to grab the good stuff :)!
The number of items that are being restocked have been increased as well.

I adore the new change, and love the fact that everything's in boxes now. But...people still know generally which box contains which item. Is there any way you can make them completely random? Maybe stack some Billboards at the bottom, and the GA medals toward the middle...put some Blush or Melody items at the top, and just generally scatter everything? There are still people getting an unfair advantage because they know the order of the boxes. x.x;
But I adore the idea, and I'm SO thankful that you did it this way. =3 I love mystery presents!

I haven't got anything great, but I have got some stuff since the change <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> Thank you, it is so much more fair this way. And it's free stuff, so no matter what it's nice. Sure I would love a medal or a billboard, but who wouldn't. Also I do miss the dc, but oh well, I miss 1996 too. Neither one are coming back.

I LOVE the idea of the gift boxes, it gives everyone a chance and it's always a surprise. I hope the entire thing is done this way next year =) KUDOS on coming up with this idea!

No, I'm not greedy, I've fun I'm for 1-2 hours at the free shop and got some nice things..

I can't believe you people! Its free stuff. Is everyone here greedy and spoiled brats? I understand complaining about clicking on the boxes and finding it sold out and not getting anything - that is very frustrating...but getting stuff and still being unhappy? If you don't like what's being given away, don't click on the boxes. And be happy I'm not on the subeta team, because if I were I wouldn't be doing this again EVER, no more giveaways on account of too much greedy complaints.

The box I choose is always "sold out" when I try to lay my hands on it.And then I have to wait 3-7(!) minutes until it restocks.And then everything repeats.And when I get something...it's a Melody item(( too bad for me.Please,please, pay attention to Silkwood's word.Please.
I like the idea for the gift boxes. I find the melody items though..everyone already has all of them since they were gifts to us before. Lots of people also have already stocked up. All I seem to get are the same melody items over and over again. That's if I have a chance to grab a gift. Is there any way for you guys to mix the items up so they don't show up alphabetically? Because those of us who used to restock the good stuff can pretty much guess the general area the good stuff will still be, so that's more of an advantage, and still less fair. Just a thought.

So it is very random, and it does work, because I have a hand injury slowing me down, but I still got one really nice item out of three. I don't like it. Those with a slow connection will still have trouble getting something, even with more items stocking. And now the odds are that people won't get an item that they want. When people could see what the items were, we could try for an item that we wanted, even if it wasn't worth much. I think the delay in between being able to select an item should be increased so it doesn't coincide with when new items are being added, because at the moment the delay is only long enough to prevent people getting two items per restock, which is virtually impossible anyway as it's hard enough getting one.
additionally it seems people closest to the server (and being able to refresh the fastest) are getting the items way faster than everyone else.
A longer delay of, say, 15 minutes with the restock staying at 5 minutes would tripple the ammount of people who will successfully get an item, rather than the people who have the lowest ammount of lag getting three items every 15 minutes.

While I do think the Mysterious Boxes are a huge improvement, I still thought the Donation Center worked a lot beter. Masking items hasn't really made it easier for people with lag. :'C

I'm actually able to get stuff now, alright! And it's nice stuff. ^^ Not superamazingexpensiveomg but you know what? It doesn't have to be. I've gotten advent presents from this year and I love having extras for my frosty gallery. And I think some of us who are not so good at restocking will have a shot to get something truly nice now. Yay, this is much better! It's a lot easier to grab stuff than the way it was before when all the elite RSers were jockeying for the best items and leaving nothing for slower clickers, and I'm really enjoying the surprise factor.

Hmm.. even with the boxes, many times I am unable to grab anything at all. Subeta is lagging too much for me; the moment I click back after getting a box that sold out, the whole shop is empty.
I can't really tell that it's restocking more often. And I find it's harder to get items.
This is fun and I don't feel the need to yell at a computer screen, because really, who ends up looking the fool when that happens.

This is so much fun! I really enjoy this change, as I would get a little overwhelmed trying to chase down the item I wanted each time the shop renewed. Now, I can just have fun every five minutes like the trick or treating!

This is a great idea. I am fortunate enough to have cable and a fast computer and it has been difficult sometimes even for me, I would imagine those with slower connection must have trouble getting anything nice. This makes it more even. Also it's just more fun this way. ^__^ Thanks!

Thank you Melody; this was actually the first time I actually recieved an item from the free shop since it's been open, and believe me, i've tried ever since the beginning. I think the boxes are a great improvement, because it gives users with slower computers to have a crack at actually recieveing a decent free gift. The Greedy RSers can't tell what's rare and what isn't, anymore. =3

It's impossible to get anything for me now, because I have to wait 10sec till the site gets load. Before this change I managed to get the cheap items. Now I get nothing <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" />

btw these boxes are going much faster now which makes it even unfairer to the people with slow connections. Before you had to scan the whole page and therefore you had some seconds more and at least my changes were better to grab some unnoticed jewel. That's it for me. Hopefully there is some good movie on tv tonight.

I was able to snag a few things, and I like this idea better. The Free Shop isn't the DC, it doesn't have the fun or the things I've liked about previous giveaways, but this little change does make things much better.
That's a very cool idea and it definitely does make it fairer. More of a chance for everyone to get something nice without missing out because someone sniped it faster. Glad someone thought of it!

Yes it's fair, yes I like it, but DANG those boxes disappear very fast. I have a super fast cable connection and after clicking on the box and purchase I'm constantly told it's sold out. Ah well, will keep trying. Still is fun and it's fair.
I think this would be absolutely great if the boxes were filled with more rare items than junk. Then again, I was going after a few junk items before they were in the boxes and it was pretty easy.<br />Not quite sure I like this new development since things are moving even faster in the shop, but okay.

I just came back home and missed almost 2 days of the giveaway and just as I finally have time for it only these boxes pop up ... I was so looking forward to spend some time here and to go 'item hunting' a bit and I absolutely don't like this new system. Others had the advantage to see the items for more than 30 hours and now the system gets changed out of the blue. I'm sorry, but I'm sad and angry right now.

I think it's a great idea...of course now the people who were doing well at it are going to be upset. But I did well at the old system and I don't see the problem...This is "fair" as everyone likes to say. =P

Personally I can't say I like the change since I was able to get a lot of good items under the old system. But the change will make things better and more equal for more users and that is the most important thing. Great job by the staff.
