Hello everyone! Our weekly maintenance window is tonight, and we'll be doing some optimization of our database. The whole process will take upwards of two hours, and we expect to begin sometime around 1 or 1:30 am Subeta time.
For the curious, we are replacing our live database with an optimized version that's only a third the size. This is necessary because our database is getting so big that it soon won't fit on the drives we have for it. We'll be backing up the old database, of course, to make sure nothing bad happens if something goes wrong.
I will try to post updates throughout the downtime to let you guys know how things are going.

DaBluMeanie: It would. Actually, across the whole database, forum posts only amount to 1-2% of space used, so it wouldn't be that big a help.
Also, one peculiar thing about databases: deleting stuff doesn't shrink them. It simply creates "empty space" in the database that is then filled with new data as it's added. In other words, databases only grow, never shrink.
Since we needed ours to shrink, what we've actually done is dumped all the data out, and reimported it, getting rid of the empty space regions. This is the "optimized" database we're switching to tonight.
Make sense?
