Anvyndr

All fully mature member of the Deep Frozen race has a vote and with a four-fifths majority they voted Anvyndr to be their king. Becoming king of his people was the first step in Anvyndr's plans though, not the culmination of them. Since that vote he has steadily worked to alter the focus, values and culture of his people. Turning them away from war and bitterness he has had to fight invaders, malcontents and the natural tendency to return hate for hate.

Their technology may seem to be lagging behind that of the Warmland nations around them but the Deep Frozen live in a land perpetually covered in snow where use of things such as wheels are practical only for pullies or spinning yarn and wood latheing. They have no streets because it would be ludicrous to attempt cutting into the frozen earth to lay a path of cobblestones. Oil lamps burn animal fat and there is no glass for windows or even enough game to make furs and leather plentiful. Instead they walk, use moonlight at night and have shutters to seal the one or two window-holes in their huts. There is no currency, no need for which they must trade and no gain for the Warmlander nations to so constantly attack them. But those supposedly wealthier and more advanced countries around them do attack because while there is no gain in the sense of useable land or strategic positioning there is motivation in the form of fear.

As infants and children the Deep Frozen come in as many colours, shades and tones as those from any other land however in their teens they begin to change, as they go through this period of growth and development they are, rather aptly, called Coolings. Hair begins growing in white. Skin gradually pales or darkens as the case may be and looses the pigment of childhood to become the shades and tones of slate which represent adulthood. The sclera visible at the corner of the eyes clouds and becomes patchy until it is entirely black and whatever the iris's colour had been they turn a pale, milky blue. When these biological and physiological changes are complete the body temperature is far lower--enough so that even the point at which water would normally freeze is not a discomfort to them. They cannot, as adults, live in the Warmlands and at the point when they are fully grown they can no-longer have children either.
