"You are approaching the wrong den, my friend..."

You turn around to find a black Montre standing on his hind legs, staring at you with silver eyes that burn into yours. His wings span the length of his body, which is covered in bandages. A crescent moon charm hangs around his neck, dangling in the breeze. "My family dwells in this part of the woods, and I would risk my life for their safety. Until I deem you worthy, you are not to come near them. However, you can take a walk with me and learn of my past, if you wish."

You decide to follow him, keeping at his side while looking around at every sound you hear. He glances over to you, chuckling to himself as his ears fold back against his head.

"My name is Keni. I used to roam through graveyards during my younger years, finding any whom do not belong with the undead. I took my job very seriously, warning and fending off visitors and thieves from the sacred grounds. I was quite a fierce creature, trying to keep those that were dead from being bothered from the living. Though, as you can see, the battles of my past have left scars and wounds that refuse to heal."

He comes to a stop, putting a paw out in front of your path to stop you from tripping over a tree root. Sighing lightly, he turns to a small cave and uses his large muzzle to direct your attention.

"It is dangerous to wander the woods alone if you do not have proper protection. You may rest in this cave for the night."

He clears his throat and follows you into the cave. As you rest against the rocky wall, Keni positions himself at the cave's entrance.

"I will watch over you until the morning. I would also be willing to continue my story, if you wish to hear it." You nod and get comfortable against the stone, settling in for sleep. "Right then." Keni says, sitting gently on the stone floor. "While performing my duties one day, I stumbled upon a mesmerizing female. From the moment I saw her, I knew she would capture my heart for all eternity. Talibah was her name, and after a short while I was desperate to make her mine."

Keni pauses and stares at nothing, appearing deep in though. You remain quiet, patiently waiting for him to continue. After several moments, the Montre breathes a deep sigh and moves his gaze back to you. “She was a beautiful creature, but this was not her only asset. She had a fierce and honorable personality, one which would befit a brave warrior. She has given me more than I could have ever dreamed, my precious son, Raegan."

Smiling, Keni hesitates once more. You can't help but think that his smile seems sad, somehow. You start to ask him if he's alright, but before you can utter the first word he cuts you off. "Forgive me. It's just that...talking about Raegan always makes me think of my daughter, as well. She passed away shortly after her birth, and I can't say that Talibah and I have ever been the same."

Unsure what to say, you simply watch Keni silently. He swallows thickly, his pained beginning to lessen. Slowly, he turns to address you once more.

"I think I have bored you enough with my tales of romance and heartache. Rest up, and make sure you find your way back home in the morning. I can't protect you forever, you know. I have other obligations..."
