Sand...? Why was there sand everywhere? When had you gotten here? This didn't look like the summery sand of Delphi, nor did it seem like the treasured sand of the Sacred Land.... Where had you gotten yourself to?

You almost jumped. There was a Bloodred Terracoon. Just.... Standing behind you. Staring. Silently. Where ever you had gotten to, it seemed that you weren't the only one here.

You opened your mouth to stay something to him, but you stopped in puzzlement when he started lifting his arm. It seemed he was pointing somewhere.

"That's the way you came from," he stated, like you had just asked him. His voice was soft, but it held authority.

He turned around and walked the a rocky ledge to rest. There was a large gourd made of sand strapped to his back. It looked a little ridiculous strapped to his small frame. This was something that you kept to yourself.

"Of course that doesn't mean you have to leave," his voice held a little sadness. His hand reached out to pet a Snowflaik with rather odd.... Markings? "But I suppose there isn't really much to do around here either."

You were a little speechless. This was... Odd. Why was there sand everywhere? Was this...? Was this just his room? That didn't seem to make much sense. Though this whole situation seemed a bit bizarre.

You gave another look to the odd Terracoon. You weren't sure whether he was being welcoming or uninviting. You decided against over-staying your welcome. So you said goodbye to him. His minion seemed to watch you carefully as you walked away.

(The bio will be broken down in two parts below. First I will give a profile on his character in the first part of the series, and underneath a profile about how he has grown since Shippuden. Read only from where you have seen. I will also leave out newer spoilers to try and be considerate)

Pre-Shippuden Gaara

Gaara was born with the demon Shukaku sealed within him. Because of this he was feared by the people of his home village Sunagakure. (The village hidden in the Sand) This is a village of shinobi. His father was the strongest shinobi in his village, and he was awarded with the title Kazekage. (Wind Shadow) The Kazekage is the leader in Sunagakure. He has an older sister Temari and an older brother Kankurou. They both fear him.

Gaara was taken care of by his uncle, Yashamaru. His father was distant, and his mother died giving birth to Gaara. Gaara was constantly protected by the Shukaku's sand. This would cause him to hurt others, without any intent to. Yashamaru was the only one who seemed to understand that Gaara wasn't trying to harm anyone.

Since it seemed that Gaara wasn't in control of Shukaku, the Sunaga council elder's ordered him to be terminated. Gaara was made into a weapon to protect Sunaga, but if he became a treat there was no longer a use for him.

Yashamaru was the one sent to assassinate Gaara. Gaara was only six years old at this time. Shukaku was able to protect Gaara from the physical assault, but not from the mental damage. Yashamaru told Gaara that he had never loved him, and had in fact resented him for causing his beloved sister's death. This trauma caused a mental break in Gaara. He told Gaara that his mother had named him Gaara after the phrase 'self-loving carnage', and that she had resented Suna to the end.

Gaara used his sand to etch the kanji for love on his forehead, and began to live up to his namesake. A demon who only loved himself. Gaara became a cruel and violent boy, only able to feel alive when he was taking someone else's life.

During an assault on another shinobi nation, Konohagakure, Gaara met Naruto who would change his life.

Shippuden Gaara

During the assault on Konoha, Gaara was forced to fight Naruto. When faced by Naruto, whose ideals were the complete opposite of his own Gaara began to question himself. Gaara had only found caring for others painful. Naruto showed him that it could be a source of strength.

Gaara began to try to change himself. Within the time gap between pre-shippuden and shippuden, Gaara became the Kazekage. People began to respect him, and the fear gradually began to fade. Though the memory of the monster he was still remained in some minds.

He began trying to kindle relationships, starting with his siblings. Kankurou became great council to him. For the first time in a long time he started to feel loved again.

He admires Naruto. He believes that Naruto saved him, and would do anything for him. He became very loyal. He would do anything to protect his village and the people who lived there.
