"THERE IT IS!!", you exclaim, pulling the insect from the base of the cabbage. It wriggles and squirms in your pinched fingers until it seemingly gives up, and settles. You hold it up to your face for a closer inspection.
The holey cabbage, yellowing on the edges, looks worse for wear; you were hoping to get one final crop of decent quality from the stragglers in the garden, but something has been eating away at the remainder, and your pipe dreams along with.
Its beady eyes stare vacuously back into yours. It seems pretty blasé about the whole state of affairs. You bend down to take a closer look at the damage-- the cabbage is completely rotten at the stalk, and is actually balancing lightly on the side of its head. Dark brown mush borders the site of consumption, and smells pretty foul now that you got your nose down to it; almost like storm drains on a muggy summer evening, or the soggy piles of fall leaves after a rain. Alright, that's about enough of that.
