Name: Briggs Dimond

Pet Name: "Starbreak"

Species and Color: Torrey, Galactic

Team Role: Team Leader

Status: Unknown

Nicknames: "Ace", "Cuddles"

Subject's Note: Is that last nickname really necessary to go into personal files? I swear, you go one one date with the woman who manages the files and don't call her because your mind is 80 miles away in the body of a pet and she gets bitter and never lets it go. - SB

Starbreak was a part of a small experimental test group testing the Mind Link project, where manufactured, mindless, yet totally alive pet bodies were occupied by human minds. The purpose of which was to allow an SAI researcher to not only have a massively effective means of observational research into pets in the wild, but also allow agents access to a highly effective "disguise" or physical abilities humans can't possibly possess, like a Mortiking's strength or a Lain's ability to fly.

In fact, he was not only the mastermind of the project, but the leader of the agents involved and ironically, the LAST to receive a body so he can conduct missions on the fly without waiting for confirmation back at SAI's Headquarters.

Usually, when you think the leader you'd think the most powerful and skilled agent in the SAI, but he kinda breaks that convention: not overly strong, and no ultra-mega-whiskey-tango-foxtrot martial arts skills.

What set him apart from his peers is a great sense of deduction and strategy, as well as a high intellect. He was able to read the moves of his opponent before they make him and, though he certainly can't over-power them, he finds a way to either cancel or turn attacks back upon themselves. He was also highly eccentric due to his insights, and also as a result he was also rather childish and self-centered.

He was actually incredibly resistant to being the last agent selected for the project. He invented it and found the idea was sound and effective, but he didn't actually want to be involved with it in this way. Every body they assigned to him he childishly, yet logically, picked apart its flaws and made it sound like the worst choice ever, usually demanding to be sent back to his own body within a few minutes.

Irritated, the Director of the SAI put his foot down on the extremely arrogant agent and assigned him a body that would irk him the most: a Torrey. Previously, the body was suggested and before the testing even took place, he said "I'm sorry, are we going into a dangerous mission or a child's birthday party? Do you intend I hug them to death?"

Needless to say, he wasn't exactly pleased. The only mission he was on he was incredibly snarky and uncooperative, and that actually helped in a particular event that changed his life..

His resistance to the link itself was actually sending spikes in the signal used to monitor any anomalies, and it led a hostile party right to the holding area where a few of the holding stations for the project agents were, including his. Due to low security, it was a bloodbath. Before word reached headquarters, all the bodies were either killed outright with weapons, or died later due to vital systems damage. This also effectively "killed" the other end in what can only be described as psychic feedback.

Except his. Effectively, he was stuck.

When the news came, what followed was the dislocation of joints of 3 agents, breaking the ribs of 2 others, about 100,000sp in equipment damage, tranquilizers, a 24-hour nap, and 5 apples...in that order. Eventually, he was okay with it. One benefit of stubbornness is you adapt to unforeseeably permanent changes to your being pretty well.

As for his combat abilities, they weren't highly affected. Granted, he lost a lot of height, reach, and striking power from his old body (imagine being hit with a pillow covered in 2 layers of padding and plush, that's a Torrey punch), but his style wasn't to overpower but to control and disorient anyway.

For funding and red tape reasons, the Mind Link Project was terminated and replaced with the "Special Projects" division which now employs over 100 pets as actual SAI agents annually. In recompense for their efforts, the 25 test agents and 45 test researchers were offered a large pay stipend in exchange for keeping the project secret and an option to keep the body they used.

Of course due to his "special" condition, the last part of that had to be prematurely accepted without any input on his part, and only two other agents took that offer voluntarily.

Ultimately, he formed friendships with those agents: a Torrey named "Syber" who's great at gathering information to keep him occupied with and yet still tolerates his temperament with almost god-like patience and energy, and a Terracoon named "Darkshot" who figured this guy has the exact combination of character flaws to make MANY enemies, and quite a few them he can justifiably shoot at.

With his pay, he treated it pretty simply. He only set himself up a permanent residence outside Centropolis, storing the rest to run off of for the rest of his life, save for a very small sum to stock a library that would make Alexander blush.

But due to his restless mind, he keeps himself busy. He stays loosely affiliated with SAI, only applying his talents when called upon with a significantly hard predicament (anything easier than that he ends up solving without leaving his room).

Informations analysis is just a fancy term for "I go where I'm not wanted".

Darkshot
Bit too violent for my tastes, but sometimes all you need is a little fire and gunpowder.
