The Sociopath

Clever, manipulative, and remorseless -- those are all words that accurately describe Xurya. Always good at getting what he wanted out of others even as a child, he grew quite used to getting his way -- and to stepping on whatever and whoever he had to in order to get it. He never grew close to anybody, even to his own parents - he saw everyone in his life as a tool to be used to further his own agenda.

As a teenager, Xurya was taken in by Virgil, whose job it was to train and care for the children who would become immortal members of the gods' courts. Though his magical strength in the element of fire was impressive and his control was fine-tuned, Xurya proved fractious and rebellious during his time there; it was all Virgil could do to keep him in line and stop him from bothering his fellow trainees too much. When the time came several years later for him to be moved to Theede, Virgil was only too glad to be rid of him.

Once in Theede, placed into the position of the goddess Psione's representative of the fire element, Xurya's behavior got no better. He was rude and condescending to Psione herself, as well as mentally and physically abusive to her other followers - and he never showed a drop of genuine contrition. He seemed totally unable to consider the feelings of those around him. After several reprimands for his attitude from Psione herself failed to elicit any changes from him -- and after it began to seem that perhaps Xurya wanted more than just to be a member of court, that he might have ambitions of becoming a god himself -- Psione finally could stand neither Xurya himself nor the way he treated the other residents of Theede any longer, and she cast him out, relieving him of his position.

No longer under the protection of Theede and no longer immortal, Xurya became resentful of his treatment at the hands of the gods, Psione in particular. He vowed that he would not let her get away with not only humiliating him, but robbing him of his position and the opportunities he may have had... by whatever means necessary. After hearing rumors that there was someone who was attempting to force his way into Theede to depose one of the existing gods, Xurya saw an excellent opportunity to advance his own interests. He allowed himself to become a member of Allandis's requisite court (which the man needed to become a god in his own right) -- though he never intended to remain a mere follower. No, Xurya would never be a follower again. He would never be anything less than known as the man who overthrew that awful woman who'd denied him his right to power and immortality.
