“Books permit us to voyage through time, to tap the wisdom of our ancestors.”
~Carl Sagan~

Personality

Raina is a very lively feli, who spends most of her time reading books. She's very shy and doesn't approach other creatures quickly. She doesn't have a lot of friends; but the ones she has are very close to her heart.

She's very smart but she's not cocky and doesn't show off her knowledge. The few friends she has often turn to her for help, advice and guidance. Her biggest fear is not being able to help her friends or give them wrong advice on their questions. Raina absolutely hates violence, but if she sees another creature in danger, she will act before thinking and will battle when she has to; nothing is too much when it comes to protecting those in trouble.

Appearance

Raina is small, slim and lithe, but also fast and agile. In battle she is often underestimated because of her appearance, which she uses to her opponent's detriment. She has soft brown fur, maroon rings on her tail, and big golden eyes, which are mostly hidden behind big black glasses, which she uses to read her books. Her two little white horns and her black wings finish her appearance, making her look sharp and cute at the same time. She's not a feline you can mess with!

Story

Raina stared down on the pages of her book. As usual she could be found with her nose stuck in one of those. Most people that knew her often wondered if there were still books left that she hadn't read already, but Raina could always find new books to read and to love. This time she hasn't started on a book just for herself though, she was working her way through this book because of her friend Kuriosity. Raina absolutely hated violence and the book she was reading at the moment therefore wasn't something she would have ordinarily picked. But, she was always in for a good read and Battling and You was no exception to that, even though the main subject of the book was violence.

Kuriosity was a Noktoa who loved battling. She could often be found inside the coliseum, where she was challenging new opponents. Raina knew that while she was reading her book, her friend was probably there, getting ready for yet another fight against an opponent much bigger than herself. Raina knew that the Noktoa also had a big fight scheduled for the next week, against one of the strongest opponents at this time. She only knew that because Kuriosity had asked her for help in the preparations for battling. Normally she wouldn't say anything about her hobby until afterwards, because she knew that Raina would get worried about her otherwise.

Raina had read almost every book about battling that was ever written and therefore she also knew almost every battle tactic that was ever designed. She knew that her friend had asked her for help because she needed it, but also to try a different strategy that would not be expected. Raina, hating violence as much as she did, rather wished for Kuriosity to not go through with the battle, but she knew that her friend would never cancel the fight. Raina loved her friend very much and she could never say no to Kuriosity, so when asked for her help, she promised she would, even when it was about battling.

That promise was the only reason she was reading the newest book from her collection at that moment. It was one of the few books written that she hadn't read already and it contained a couple of the best battle strategies she had ever heard. She wanted to make sure that she would be able to help her friend prepare for the fight the best way she could, so that Kuriosity could start the fight with as much knowledge as possible. This would help keep her friend as safe as possible.

Kuriosity and Raina had met years ago when they were both out for a walk in the park. Even though they instantly knew that they were very different, a friendship had started on that day. Through the years it became clear to both of them that they indeed were very different. Raina loved reading, hated violence, was very shy and only had a handful of friends. Kuriosity however had only read a couple of books, most of them were about battling. She was very social and she had lots of friends. Despite these differences though, the friendship between the two worked.

After completing the book entirely, Raina continued to stare at the last page, thinking about what she had read. Then she grabbed a notebook and started to write down a step by step strategy that should work for Kuriosity in her battle. She incorporated the best weapons which she knew her friend owned and she also added in some potions and spells. After she was done writing, she read through her explanations again and she believed with that strategy the Noktoa could win her battle. She then ran all the way towards the coliseum where she got there in time to congratulate Kuriosity with a win against the famous Saggitarius. She then handed her friend the notes she had made for the upcoming battle against Prodigy. She saw how Kuriosity read through the notes quickly and then smiled when her friend thanked her for them. Raina was glad that she had kept her promise and she knew that even though it would be a long and hard battle, the outcome would be Kuriosity winning the challenge. She was so sure of the strategy she had given her friend that before she left she promised her that for once she would come and watch the battle.

On the day of the battle Raina had made her way towards the coliseum and she was sitting in the audience. She heard the chats about Prodigy being the certain winner of this battle as he had never lost a fight before. She had a little smile on her face, knowing that her friend could never lose this one. She saw how Kuriosity came flying out of one of the coliseums gates, all ready for the most important battle of her life. At the other side of the arena she saw another challenger appear, who couldn't be anyone other than Prodigy. When the fight between the two challengers started Karen quickly saw how Kuriosity was doing exactly what she had written out for her friend. She threw the potions, used the spells and handled her weapons with precision and the timing was spot on. She knew that with the strategy she had written down, there was no way that her friend would lose this fight.

But then something happened that made Raina stare at Prodigy. For some reason she had a feeling that Prodigy was doing something wrong. After staring and thinking for a while, she realized that he wasn't acting as she had imagined the challenger to do, and therefore Kuriosity's actions weren't going as they were planned either. The spells she cast had little to no effect and her weapons didn't seem to do as much damage as they could. Then she saw how Prodigy attacked Kuriosity. her eyes started to grow bigger as she realized that her friend was in real danger and there wasn't anything she could do to help her. She saw how Kuriosity got attacked again and saw how her friend got hurt because of it. Because of things changing in a split second during this battle, the Noktoa was now standing with her back against one of the walls with no way out. Raina closed her eyes. She didn't want to see the final attack from Prodigy. She knew that it had been her fault. She had given Kuriosity a battle tactic without thinking about the challenger's response enough. She hadn't realized that by changing the fighting style, Prodigy could change the fight. When she opened her eyes again she saw her friend lying on the ground. The audience was cheering for Prodigy and Raina knew that the fight was over.

At the sight of her friend lying on the ground and Prodigy being cheered on, she jumped up quickly, ran towards the center of the arena and challenged Prodigy without even thinking about it clearly. She then grabbed the weapons from Kuriosity, grabbed the potions and started her fight. Now that she had seen Prodigy's fighting stance for this battle, she knew what to change about her strategy. Prodigy fought back almost immediately, but Raina was in such a rage, that he really didn't have a chance against her and couldn't even hurt her once. She was too fast and nimble. She threw her potions and before Prodigy could react, she had already hit him with her weapons, hurting him in the process. She continued to attack until eventually Prodigy was down on the ground, unconscious just like Kuriosity was. Raina stared down at Prodigy and then her eyes moved to her friend, still lying on the ground. All of a sudden she realized what she had done. She threw down the weapons she was still holding and ran towards the coliseum exit. She hated violence and just now she had completely lost her temper and she had fought. Even though after reading all of those battle books, she knew all of the strategies and therefore was a perfect battler, it was her choice not to pursue her skill set. Since she didn't like to batlle, she hardly ever did, unless just like earlier, after she saw her friend in trouble, she lost her temper.

She just needed to go home now. After today there was no way Kuriosity would ever want to stay friends with her. She knew that battling meant everything to her and winning this battle would have meant the world to her. After arriving at her home, Raina ran up the stairs and started to pull out every single book about battling from her collection. She would never read any of those again. She wasn't planning on giving anyone advice about battling ever again, either. She picked up the book Battling and You and tears started to form in her eyes. She had lost her best friend because of that book. She wanted to throw it away, but realized that she couldn't. Books just meant too much to her. She broke down in tears, when she realized that her feelings towards the books where the same feelings Kuriosity had about battling and she finally understood the need for fighting she had shown. She started to put the books back in the places they belonged, knowing that even though she was keeping them, she would probably never read them again.

When she placed back the last book, the Battling and You, which she had grown to hate, she heard a bell and knew that someone was standing at her door. She walked down and when she opened the door she saw Kuriosity was standing there. "So, I heard you defeated Prodigy!"

Kuriosity didn't wait until the healer had come to cure her. She wanted to know why Raina had left the coliseum so quickly. Raina broke down and told her friend that it had been her fault that she didn't win the battle and that she had taken away her moment by defeating Prodigy herself right after.

Kuriosity shrugged and said that she might not have won that battle, but that she would win future battles. It just meant that she had to prepare even better and that she needed more practice. Raina could only stare at her, realizing that she hadn't lost her best friend despite thinking the opposite. And then Kuriosity asked if she wanted to help with the preparations for the next battle, considering she had been able to defeat Prodigy.

She looked up to the Noktoa, grinning. "You bet!" A smile formed itself on her face.
