he autumn equinox is a mysterious time. It marks an essential passage in the process of enlightenment that is often overlooked, misunderstood, dark and heretical. All things must die before they can be born, descent then ascent. All those who long for light, must first face their inner darkness to overcome. A stage of inner preparation.

Typically depicted as large, wingless, serpentine creatures with clawed feet, Aki floats around the island of Japan with swift grace. She remains unseen by most people, expect to animals and little children. She weaves her way in and out of the forest, buildings, and mountains like an eel moves through water. A spirit that is kind and gentle and enjoys watching other creatures enjoy life around her. Even though her movement is fast, her personality is slow. She accepts change and does not let the future worry her. She knows it will come and it will pass; just like the winter, spring will thaw the bitter cold.

While Aki is awake for the entire year, she is at her strongest during the Autumn Equinox until the Winter Solstice. She will travel throughout Japan bringing in the autumn foliage to the greenery. She sweeps through forests and paints the wilderness with red, orange, and yellow. An artist at her work, she admires what she does with great pride. She flies through the every day slowly changing the leaves until her last task is to make them fall onto the ground, waiting for the winter to creep it's way in.

Beside from bringing in autumn, Aki has the power to change into her human form. She is usually seen in Kyoto, and she chooses to abandon her spirit cover and enter the human realm. She is usually dressed in traditional Geisha clothing. She has long, curly, orange hair that is tied up beautiful with ethereal adornments. Her kimonos are usually colors of autumn, but the main character she treasures the most is a bright ruby red that is lined with white and orange leaves.

It's always a risky thing to make a character based after a culture that still exists today. The Japanese culture is very rich and diverse and by having a character that represents such an incredible culture; I can learn throughout my research about it. I hope that my fantasy Japanese themed character is not found with offense by any of that culture for I have a deep respect for the Japanese people. I hope to spread truthful information throughout my studies about the people, their beliefs, their rich culture, their struggles they have endured, and their deep history.
