Milan Anthony Hartmann

Anybody who knew Sharon and Mike Saunders personally were greatly surprised that the couple ever managed to stay together as long as they did. Mike was a Wall Street executive who absorbed himself in work and hardly ever considered the consequences of sacrificing leisure and social time with friends and family, while Sharon worked at a vegan cafe with flexible hours, so she could attempt to get her husband out of the house. It was clear that the couple loved each other, but after too long emotionally separated from each other, the only solution they could think of was divorce. Unfortunately, the one person standing in the way was the couple's very young son, Milan. One messy custody battle later, Sharon ended up with the baby, leaving Mike bitter and angry with her, despite having more rights than many other divorced fathers. After the two of them had been forced to move out, Sharon, feeling betrayed by her ex-husband, had Milan's surname legally changed to her maiden name, Hartmann, and for a while, nobody came between them. Even on the weekends, when Mike would take him over to his house, Milan never felt truly connected to his estranged father. He would much rather involve himself in his work than play or finger paint with his son. Knowing that things were hard on her little boy, Sharon did everything possible to make things good for Milan. Things took a turn for the worse, however, one spring break when Sharon decided to take Milan to Hawaii. While picnicking by a nearby lagoon, Sharon lost her footing near the top of a small waterfall, where she fell and cracked her head open upon a large rock, tumbling into the water. Because nobody could reach her in time, she drowned, Milan, only five years old at the time, watching her the entire time.

With his mother now dead, Milan moved in with his father, who seemed to distract himself with work more than ever now. There were occasional moments when Mike would be an actual father and treat his son to a day at the park or a trip to the ice cream parlor, but he only seemed to do this when he felt obligated to do so. To consume most of his time, Mike had Milan sign up for guitar lessons at the local community center. The teacher noticed how well the boy performed after only a short amount of time, and soon, Milan was performing for charity drives and school fundraising concerts. With this new niche in life, Milan had a goal to eventually become the greatest rock star he could ever hope to be. He signed up for singing lessons as well, and soon he discovered he had a golden throat to go with his golden fingers. Still, in spite of his greatness, Milan could never seem to catch the attention of his workaholic father, even though he had written a few songs just for him. Soon, however, he started to avoid his father all together. As Milan was nearing his teenage years, he noticed something he thought was...odd about himself. He had shown little interest in girls his age, or even older. In fact, he was shocked to realize, he seemed more interested in other boys! He was scared of how his father would react if he had figured it out, and his behavior became more and more gloomy and depressed. Seeing that he was unhappy in his current home life, though not quite knowing why, Milan's maternal grandmother, after a long amount of time, managed to convince Mike that his son needed a better home environment, offering to take him in with her and his orphaned older cousin, Mina. Reluctantly, he agreed, and Milan was moved out and into a better home, as well as a better neighborhood. After a couple of months of living with his grandma and Mina, he finally confessed to both of them about his budding sexuality. Thankfully, both of them took it well, and accepted him for who he was. His confidence now restored, he immediately got back on track to achieving his rock star dream.

To many people, Milan is polite, friendly and eager to please. He's also kind of an idiot, but he never lets that fact get to him. He currently works as the lead guitarist and back-up singer for a live band at Ginny's, a rock-themed nightclub. He hopes one day to start his band, and still writes songs on a regular basis. Recently, however, he had a rather unfortunate break-up with his long-time boyfriend, and has not taken it well. He still tries his hardest to smile, though, in spite of his heartache.
