Reflections on the past

It has been some time since I have left Centropolis. I grew up in a pack just outside the city. My parents discovered our "useless" wings could actually be used for flight after observing the birds in and around the city. Together with another pack, we learned to fly and harnessed the power of the wind. Keeping a low profile, they patrolled the streets of Centropolis at night, making sure the streets were safe for all Subeatans. When I came of age, I was thrilled to be able to join the ranks of the Shadow Clan. Together we kept the city safe.

Then one moonless night, Maleria appeared. She had somehow heard of The Shadow Clan and decided we were the perfect subjects for her evil bidding. The Shadow Clan fought bravely and fiercely, but one by one fell under the weight of Maleria's magic. I, too, succumbed to her magic, but not entirely. I still retained control of my thoughts, for the most part. I fled towards Veta Lake an decided to hide in a small cave I discovered right outside Peka Glade. Days and Nights passed. I barely ate and Maleria's voice screamed in my head to do her bidding, but I refused. Some time later, a lone Montre came upon my hiding place. I tried to drive her away, but discovered she could also fly. I didn't know of any other Montres who could fly aside from those of us who lived near Centropolis. Rhylthara, as she is called, refused to leave my side despite the danger she put herself in. She believed that one day she could break Maleria's curse and I would be free of her echoing demands.

Present Day

Rhylthara has kept her promise, she managed to break the curse and return me to my former glory. I have missed the golden spark of my eyes, although she claims it was always there, just hidden. I owe my everything to her and have pledged to never leave her side. Maybe someday the Shadow Clan will thrive again, but until that time, I am content in my little corner of Veta Lake.
