During the spring of my fourth year, I was practicing with some lain chicks. I would watched them furiously flap their wings and then lift effortlessly thought the air. I tried as hard as I could and before I know it I wash flying through the air. As the Spring turned to Summer, I was able to perfect my flight and soar high above my mother's territory. Then, towards late Summer my ability to fly was discovered by a packmate. She immediately ran to my mother and told her what I had been doing.
"Rhylthara, what in Shinwa's name are you doing?!" she barked at me as I entered our camp. "Mother, I, I wanted to fly...," I stammered as she glared at me disapprovingly. "We do not fly! Though we have wings, it is not in our nature to soar above the clouds like some ignoble beast. I am ashamed of you. I expected more from my daughter." "Fine, I will start my own pack. We will ALL fly and not be ashamed of our abilities."
With that, I turned my back on my pack and flew as far and as fast as I could to get away. I flew for what seemed like hours and landed right outside of Peka Glade. Finding a small, shallow cave, I rested. When I woke up I came face to face with an odd looking montre growling at me.
"What are you doing here? Get away! It is very dangerous here!" he growled looking panicked. "I, I'm sorry," I stammered, "I'll fly out of here and find another resting place." I took to the air to find another place to rest, when all of a sudden, I heard the montre's voice again. This time he sounded amazed. "You can fly too?, he called, flying up to where I was. "Yes, I can. There are others who can fly?" "Yes. Please come down and I will explain myself."
I flew back down and followed the montre, whose name was Nanatsu. He explained that there was a pack of montre who had learned to fly in Centropolis. They helped keep the peace, mostly at night so as not to been seen. Maleria had somehow caught wind of this pack and tried to turn them to do her bidding. He was the only one who managed to escape her grasp.
"I hide here so she cannot find me, though her calls echo in my head. I have managed to keep myself secluded so far. You are the first creature I have come upon in in a year." "I promise to protect you then. I have no pack of my own right now, as my mother deems flying unfit. I will not let Maleria find you."
I promised Nanatsu I would find a way to break Maleria's curse. He was incredulous that I was not afraid of his appearance. What he did not know was that a spark of life was still making itself known behind his soulless eyes.
