Dog Teeth
youre cold on the inside, theres a dog in your heart. it tells you to tear everything apart. you draw blood just to taste it. you hold bones just to break them. you ruin everything you touch and destroy anyone you love. you're all over me.

the grass in the courtyard is soft so i lay on my back and look up at the sun and the clouds drifting sideways in the sky. the clouds dont care what's going to happen tomorrow. the clouds dont care whats happening now. i wish i could be one of them.
i raise my hand to touch one of them. the veins poking out of my chalky skin are lavender and unknowing.
"dogteeth."
i squint and move my hand. rhhys is standing over me with his hands on his hips. i ask him whats wrong.
"i havent seen you all day," he says and sits down next to me. "youve been here all day?"

"you missed first and second period."
i know that.
"you cant keep doing this, youre going to get in trouble."
i don't mind that.
"have you eaten yet?"
i haven't. i'm sorry. i forgot.
rhhys picks a few blades of grass thoughtfully, twirling the long sharp blades between his slender fingers. "when will you eat next then?"
not sure, rhhys. im really not hungry right now.
"what if i bring you lunch?"
i won't eat it. save your money.
rhhys tosses the blades of grass aside. he says nothing more and gets up and walks back to the school building.
i look back to the clouds.

when it's dusk out and im home, my skin slick with a powdery layer of dried sweat, i let my backpack fall off my shoulders and land on the ground. i fall into my bed and im looking at my texts for the day i didnt bother to read.
brunette is saying shes bored at the library. rhhys says hes busy at the cafe but he'll stop by. rosella is babysitting. they are in classes. brunette might dye her hair. rhhys says her hair is fine the way it is.
i love brunette but i really want her to go away forever.
i toss down my phone and reach for my laptop. a ballerina is smiling up at me. i have a dm from rhhys.

my door isnt really locked and rhhys knows that so he walks into my room. i had lit a candle. it smells like strawberry lemonade in my room.
i say that he looks handsome.
rhhys steps over the scattered clothes and stuffed animals on my carpet and sits next to me on my bed. my heart starts to feel funny.
he's quiet for a long time. i'm quiet for a long time. i think the way he breathes is beautiful.
rhhys smiles. it's broken. "remember when we first met?"
yes, i am smiling, my eyes are filmy. my ears are full of cotton candy. i remember meeting you at the cafe. i forgot my pocket book, you bought my tea for me. you sat with me.
"you were crying." rhhys's smile fades.
i don't respond. i put my hand on his leg. he pushes it off gently.
"i don't know how to help you, dogteeth."
i don't want help.
"well you need help."
my face burns. i tell him to get out.
he starts to stand up. i wish he would stay.
rhhys shoves his hands in his pockets. "one day youll see what i see."
i ask him if he sees that im beautiful.
"no. i see that youre sick."
he's gone.
