He always would whisper a greeting to the first star of the evening, to welcome her back after a long day. She wasn't the most brilliant star in the sky, but she was his favourite, and to him- the most beautiful of all.
One night, after he said his hello, he heard a voice speak back:
Come to me, Vista, and let us be together.
And he knew it was her.
So he left his home and began his journey. He travelled to the highest mountain in all of Subeta. And he began to climb towards its highest peak.
It was not as easy journey. His hooves became sore, his back ached and all he wanted was a nice, warm bed. But he remained resolute, and after days and days of climbing, he reached the top of the mountain.
Night fell, and his star finally appeared in the sky.
You came for me, said the soft voice in his head. I did not believe you would. Come closer to me.
Vista did not know how he could get any closer than the highest peak of the tallest mountain, but desperate to obey, he began to walk. He walked and walked and walked until he realized he had run out of ground and was walking through the sky.
To her.
My dearest Vista, let us run together!
And they ran through the sky, just ahead of the other evening stars. They ran and ran, never getting tired. She spoke of the stars and the sky, of all the things she had seen below. He was entranced.
And so they returned to his mountain. As he prepared to return to the ground, she suddenly turned to him, gave him a kiss on the forehead and then plunged from the sky.
I cannot stay in the sky a moment longer. You must take my place, Vista. You must run.
With that, she turned and ran from the mountain top, down to explore the world below.
Vista had been tricked. In his confusion he realized he was glowing brightly. He ran, staying ahead of all the other stars, who he could hear laughing at him behind his back.
He would run, and continue to usher in the night, because it needed to be done. But he would watch, and wait for the day when he found her again.
