In his youth Konstantin was a very curious boy. He felt a much closer connection to the flora around him than he ever could have with other people. As a pure blood wizard he had certain expectations to live up to. Before he left to attend the prestigious school of witchcraft and wizardry he thought he would find himself alone with his plants for the rest of his life. When he arrived at Hogwarts much changed. He was sorted into Ravenclaw and thrived in his studies. He excelled in Herbology and made plans to research medicinal properties in plants after graduating. Much to his surprise he succeeded and by his 25th birthday he had become a well known wizard among the magical herbologist community. He was often invited to lecture on his findings and he published a number of books. Things seemed to be all sunshine and smiles and he felt like his life was going perfectly. Such a thing was not to last. For the first time he was struck with tragedy. In conflict his family died and he remained alone. That in itself would not have been a big problem for the solitary man, but with their deaths the lasting debts came to light. His younger brother, the family disappointment, had often drank too much and gambled a fortune away. His father had a mistress whose demands for beauty and luxury had cost the family much. His mother had tried to keep troubles away, but her death had brought them to his doorstep. Konstantin was left with virtually nothing. The family estate was one he could not keep and his research would have to end. They all cost too much. The impoverished Earl of Birkenwald, as that was his title now, decided he would fix this easily. The estate held a large plant collection in the gardens and he did not want to part with his childhood home. Luckily for him a wizard merchant family with considerable wealth was looking to marry their eldest daughter into nobility. This family was the Chalifours. In order for the marriage to be completed the daughter named Christine would have to give birth to an heir carrying her name. The child would receive the title, yet retain the Chalifour name. Christine's younger sisters would give birth to children with a different name and so the family name would survive. This did mean the end for the Birkenwald family line. Konstantin demanded the estate kept his name and the Chalifour cover any outstanding debt. An agreement was quickly reached and the two married. They were to have one child, Charles Henry Chalifour, who continued the Chalifour name to this day. A new tradition was set so anyone who would marry into the Chalifour family took their name whether they were male or female guaranteeing the name survive time. Konstantin's marriage held little love and plenty purpose. Through marriage he was able to continue his research and write. His books still are a treasure trove of information and have since brought their own share of wealth to the family. He peacefully passed away at age 79, considerably old for his time.
