May the crows guide you.
Tarvis was an illegitimate half-orc between an orc chief and a one time fling. While scorned, he was accepted into his tribe and orc family because he was the only son and thus heir to the chief. He grew up with an older sister, a true orc named Gweyr, who had loved him like one would a pet. Another half-orc named Muninn lived in the tribe, and Tarvis grew close with her. While he was not as pushed aside because of his bloodline, she took a more harsh form of alienation among the others. He was the only one who really treated her well, other than her orc mother. The trio grew up close within the tribe. The tribe was close with the crows that lived in the area. Crows were sacred among them, as it was legend that said that a crow led their ancestral leader to victory. No one in the tribe dared raise a hand against a crow, and they were used extensively as means of communication, delivery, and companionship. When an orc passes away, they pray in orc: "May the crows guide you." They believed when they died, they would become crows to lead the next generation of orcs.
When Tarvis was new to adulthood at the age of 16, his father succumbed to his age. Out of pride, the chief still wanted to fight, but the old orc was slow and weakened by time. He was taken down during a raid, and that left the chief position to Tarvis. Tarvis took Muninn and Gweyr to be his close right hands. At first, the orcs accepted their new leader out of respect of the previous chief, but things were starting to run a lot differently. Instead of pillaging the villages nearby, Tarvis wants to rely more heavily on natural resources. The orcs itched for battle and slaughter, and in their unrest came anger. Gweyr noticed this, and took matters into her own hand.
At the height of tensions, Gweyr led the mutiny against her half-brother. Tarvis was quickly overpowered, as those loyal to him were few to protect him. Muninn was also captured, but his sister's affection toward her friend allowed her to be spared from execution. Muninn was taken away to be sold as a slave instead. Tarvis, defeated and captured, awaited his execution in a cage.
They refused to feed him during his final hours. In his hunger, he grew delirious. He dreamed his father came to him in a dream as a crow, telling him that his ways of leading was wrong. He snapped and devoured the crow in his frustration, and when he realized that the blood on his hands were real, he grew fearful. Harming a crow was a taboo. The curse came in the form of turning him into a barbarian, unable to contain his pain and rage within. With his new curse, he was able to break himself free and run from his sentence. He now carries the guilt and curse within him, eating away at his human half of the blood.
