Life on Shay Mountain was once a paradise for the Farrell clans. For over 200 years, we lived as we chose to live. Free, by our own rules, according to our own ways. Then the bad came on, starting with that warning Phelia brought stating the lowlanders were gonna try removing us for their coalrock which lay under our mountain. At least that's what the Lostie, Asa, had told Lady Ray.

It wasn't long before they spread their poisons over our crops, into our water and that's when the runs began. Small things at first, jugs of water, flour, actual bread, dried meats, just the basics needed to survive. Of course there were those who took it too far, Big Foster had begun stocking weapons to fight off the lowlanders, against Lady Ray's wishes. Things only got worse when some lowland scum murdered Elon after he snuck down to join his Fa on a run. From there things just went downhill.

Things began to hit home for Fallon shortly after Elon's death. It was supposed to be a simple run. "Flour, corn meal, beans, water, as much water as you can get, sugar, yeast," Fally's eyes shone with worry. "And be careful, Foster's still raving mad. I don't see why Lady Ray don't just order 'im to the box."

"'Cause for once it's justified, Fay. Elon shouldn't've been down there, but that didn't give 'em any right to kill 'im either," Hasil's hand ran lightly up and down her pale arm. "I'll be careful and stick close ta Asa, m'kay?"

Fallon really hadn't had a chance to get to know the Lostie, between him spending halfyear in the box, followed by his pit fight against Lil Foster and the shitstorm the coaldevil's had started, but Krake was mighty fond of him (even if that was countered by G'Win's dislike fer what he'd done in the past) and the impression Hasil'd gotten from him had been good, good enough to trust over Big Foster at any rate.

It was a three hour ride down, so the party had saddled up the ATVs, prepared the truck and set out a little past noon. Silently Fallon twisted the wooden ring on her finger as her husband roared off on his bike near the back with Asa. All day there'd been a gnawing worry in the back of the redhead's mind, one she was sure Lady Ray and G'Win'd call a women's knowing. Still Fally tried to distract herself, first by cleaning and when that failed she headed to the greenhouse. After finding little to take her mind off things the redheaded Farrell gathered her knives and set off toward the woods.

As the hour grew late, Fallon gathered her blades and turned to go, but before she got even five paces from the target she heard the rustling of the leaves. Turning she saw them, Wyleth-Clannin staring at her and in her heart she knew something had gone wrong.

An accident. Hasil was alive, whole, but couldn't ride, at least not until his leg, arm and ribs healed. With this in mind, Fallon requested an audience with the Bren'in. Entering the house, Fallon bowed her respects before laying out her case. "I know it's not normal Lady Ray," her voice even and calm, "but Hasil and me got no other option."

Surprised by the Bren'in's blessing, Fallon found herself uneasily taking riding lessons from Asa and Lil Foster, both of whom flanked her two weeks later on not only her first run, but her first time even setting foot off the mountain.

"May the road rise with you," both Lady Ray and Hasil whispered from their respective homes as the party made the three hour trek down into Blackburg.
