Rave...

Rave wasn't just a lifestyle to him. Rave was life. Staying out all night, dancing to the point of collapse and sharpening his wits against the night crowd - these were actions that sustained him like gourmet meals, like fine wine, like the very air he breathed.

There was so much to learn, so much to do, so much beauty to admire.

How could anyone be content to spend their days sitting at the same desk, hour after hour or staring at the same person across a table day after day?

He surrounded himself with the like-minded. The women who accepted his invitations were aware of his perpetual bachelor status. There were no bitter feelings - these were free spirits. Butterflies lose their luster when trapped in a jar. Love was beautiful, a thing to be shared. Jealousy was a sign of immaturity and a sign that the offended newcomer wasn't ready for this new age of peace they were building one wild night at a time.

His five favorites jokingly called themselves "The Weekdays" and had formed a tight bond of friendship. The irony of their names was not lost on April, Maya and Juni, though none of them were related by blood. Vera and Rhonda were newer to the group but all five might have known each other from birth. They spent carefree evenings painting nails, watching chick flicks or talking over the books they were reading. If he invited one to be his dance partner, the others were happy for her.

April was a brilliant hostess who often organized the raves Don hosted at his own estate. She had the magic touch when it came to pairing the right appetizers with the right songs.

Maya was skilled with equipment and helped him manage his highly successful DJ business. When the music reaches her, she will literally dance until she drops.

Juni adores animals and looks out for Don's "bestest little buddy" Dante whenever Don gets caught up in an especially intense rave. She gladly does the same for party-goers in need of a little help. She's a little shy as a dancer but adores modern music and cracked Don's heart just a little bit with her limitless kindness.

Vera is an aspiring fashion designer whose neon bodysuits are often featured on Don's person. Together, they hope to change perceptions about what is acceptable for day-wear.

Rhonda hasn't quite gotten over her move from the coast to the big city. She was a seven-time national surfing champion who can tell you endless stories about "catching the big one". She also has a wicked sense of humor nearly strong enough to match Don's own.

Not everyone understands his way of life but he does his best to be tolerant to all walks of life...even to those who don't extend him the same courtesy.
