First, my headcanon of 8625s.
Mammal. Can move around on land or in water, but very slow and clumsy in both of them. Can't dive deep or swim long distance, so they live in shallow water near reefs, rocks and beaches. Spends a lot of time lying around near the water's edge. Their favourite places are rock pools, where they can lie in the sun, splash each other and eat starfish.
They're really terrible hunters, so most of their food is stuff that can't run away. Coral, shellfish, seaweed, jellyfish, sea cucumbers, that sort of thing. If a fish or bird is injured, recently dead, or very unlucky, they'll eat that too. They can often be found chewing on those chalky dead cuttlefish, or licking algae off rocks.
Lives in groups of 5-30. When the food supply of the area's getting a bit low, small groups will break away to find new places. When they find a good one, they'll start gradually moving there. They can also sense volcanic activity (something to do with vibrations, or the chemicals in the water). So if all of the 8625s panic and leave suddenly without sending scouts first, it might be a good idea to evacuate for a few weeks just in case.
Silent Waters was in one of those groups that split off to look for a new place. There was a storm or predator or something, and she got separated from the rest of her group. Chills was on the beach collecting shells, teaching kids to surf, etc. Found her washed up on the beach starving n stuff. Brought her home.
We don't have a pool, so I said no. How are we supposed to care for a saltwater creature the size of a very large dog? Instead, she lives on the same beach where Chills found her, except we got a vet in to heal her, and we bring her extra food. (8625s are not self sufficient. They need their pod so they can share with each other). Chills was about to move on and travel somewhere else, but he stayed there, camped out on the rocks next to her.
Months passed. They're really good friends. A pod of 8625s showed up. They're not the ones Silent knows. They let her join them, but they haven't quite accepted her, even though they've lived here for a few years now.
In Silent's ideal world, when the pod leaves, she'll stay on the beach and live with Chills, camping out under the stars near a rock pool, splashing in the bioluminescent algae and talking to each other. But she hasn't told him about this, because she knows he's an adventurous spirit who wants to travel the world and not be tied down. She doesn't want to restrict his freedom.
In Chills's ideal world, the pod will leave and they'll stop being so mean to Silent. Then they can live together on the beach, lying in the sun and listening to music from the speakers in his van. But he hasn't told her this because he knows she'll want to be with her own kind.
Is this too cheesy? It's too cheesy, isn't it. It's cheesy as mac.
