His dad had a dangerous job, where people needed to follow orders and be tough, or else everyone would die. It was hard to avoid taking that mindset home to his family. They missed him, but were stressed when he was home.
Chills was a sensitive, daydreamy little kid. He stared out the window wondering what birds were thinking. He flinched and fell over every time someone threw a ball to him. He moved slowly, and his thoughts were all over the place. Kept losing and forgetting everything. He doodled a lot, and his doodles became drawings that people were impressed about. This should've pleased him, but it scared him instead.
When Chills was 17, his dad had to retire. He came home restless because he didn't have anything to do. Chills and his dad clashed and it was really stressful so Chills dropped out and ran away.
Him and some friends saved up together to buy an old lemon of a van. Now they drive around finding seasonal work and stuff. Turns out most of them were just treating it as a gap year, and now Chills has the van to himself. At the moment, he's in a little beach town.
His parents thought it was a gap year, but it's actually been 5 years, and he shows no signs of returning. They worry about him.
And on an unrelated note:
Every time someone calls him useless or yells at him for things he can't control, he's frozen in place and can't think clearly. For some websites, he uses word and image replacers so he won't get yelled at as much. Because it bothers him, even when it's an NPC. He suggests you try them if it bothers you too.
If you want, he will give you a hug with his long, sloth-y arms.
