Take it from me, Frowny Face: it's okay to frown sometimes.

These days, those trite little ~positive thinking~ slogans are everywhere. "It's a good day to have a good day." "Choose happiness." That sort of thing.

Well, let me tell you... it's not always that easy. Sure, you can choose the actions you take in response to negative things. That's what Smiley's always telling me. "Look on the bright side, Frowny! Make the most of what you've got." And I mean, that's fine. Nothing wrong with trying your best and all. (Even though it takes more effort for me, a natural pessimist, to think that way than it does for Smiley, a natural optimist.)

But trying your best is different from what the slogans are talking about. They imply that you can just flip a mental switch and BOOM, no more sadness! Depressed? Well, that's your own fault! You won't be depressed anymore if you just decide you're going to have a good day!

Ugh.
