Ak Hayakawa is a Devil Hunter based in Tokyo's Public Safety Division. His cold, stoic demeanor is a façade, hiding his true nature as an emotional and caring person. He expressed disdain for devils, yet grew close to and even shortened his lifespan to save Angel Devil.

Aki is fiercely protective of those he cares about, especially Angel Devil. He consistently goes out of his way to protect him with little regard for Angel's abilities - the draining of someone's lifespan through touch. Aki ensures he has long sleeves and gloves when around Angel. It it safe to be near them through clothing. He has been very vocal about how little he cares about the potential danger. Both he and Angel view death in a unique lens. Aki knocks on death's door and Angel envies him for it. Angel would even call Aki lucky once for his ability to die.

Over time, the two would take many risks for one another, despite insisting they would never get along. Aki deep down cares deeply for Angel. And Angel would begin to return those feelings.
