I've never understood how magicians can stand to be in a position of servitude. Are we not the ones with the power? Aught we not be the ones who are served?

Rhystal, to all outside appearances, is a businessman of excellent repute. A warlock so powerful that he works in tandem with a dozen powerful corporations, providing them with spells and enchantments in exchange for wealth and status within Subetan high society. He is well respected by business elites and magicians alike, and is often sought out by even aristocrats when they have need of someone with magical power or social influence.

What none of them know, however, is that this is all a sham. Rhystal does everything he claims to do, of course, but his sterling reputation and vast wealth are the result of the fact that he has placed powerful enchantments on the upper echelons of every company he works with. With these CEOs and company directors essentially brainwashed to see him as a trusted friend and agree to anything he asks of them, he can demand any price he wants for his services, no matter how ludicrous. It is an insidious enchantment too, because he does not control them otherwise- they are permitted to keep their normal personality, and go about their lives and business completely normally. But when the subject of Rhystal comes up, the spell activates and they heap him with the highest of praises, minds programmed to something near to sycophantic worship. Rhystal is uninterested in the politics and power games of the elite personally, but he's more than willing to use his buisness pawns to play these games for him, garnering even more people to ask for his services and fall into his carefully honeyed trap.

He used to have an apprentice named Taita, but she recently vanished from his mansion. Gone off on her journeyman quest, he claims, the final step before she graduates... but the truth is far darker.
