Envy. Everyone has a bit of envy. Surely even the nicest people secretly want something that others have that they themselves don't?Imagine that you and your friend were both separately taking part in a competition. You ended up losing while they made it to the final round. Now imagine you try again. You get to the final round this time, but so does your friend, and they're the one who wins. You lose out a third time while your friend STILL gets to the final round. You can't help but wish that was you, right?
And you find yourself falling behind in popularity because of it. Your friend gets all the glory and recognition and publicity, while you have trouble keeping up. You can give so much more if you were just lucky enough to be given a chance! That's the real problem: luck. Your friend wouldn't have all of this without luck.
But no matter how much bitterness you have in your heart, you just can't bring yourself to tell anyone. You feel like you have to graciously accept it, "be the bigger person" and all that. You'd rather not hurt anyone because it's no one's fault, really, it's all down to luck. And maybe one day, their luck will run out, and things can finally work in your favour.
