What are Bolkians?

You ever notice that in nature there aren't really any mammalian hermaphrodites? There are various microbe species and plants and some other creatures who are that way, but not mammals. Well Bolkians got you covered there. This race, native to Andor are a rather fascinating species indeed! Yes, at birth they are true blue hermaphrodites. What's a hermaphrodite? Glad you asked. It means a creature who is actually both genders at the same time, possessing the organs of both male and female. Bolkians are hermaphrodites naturally and their biology is something to behold! They are vaguely humanoid in shape, with pointed ear with tufts of feathers on the ends. They have two massive horns atop their heads, these horns can curve and split off into almost antler-like shapes. Exact design of the horns varies from each individual. Now when it comes to the chest area of Bolkians, every Bolkian has breasts of more of a female variety. Why? Simply put to be able to breastfeed their young of course. And their legs are covered in a thick layer of feathery down usually quite vivid in colors. Behind them is a tail sort of resembling a lions tail with a tuft of feathers at the end. And finally the feet are actually hooves. Have you ever seen a creature so fantastic? I think not!

Every Bolkian can effortlessly change their voice. They are sort of like birds, able to mimic voices of things around them. So whichever gender the Bolkian identifies as they can reflect it in their voice. Are you a Bolkian and still not sure what gender you want to be? Totally fine, just use a neutral voice until you either figure it out or realize that's just who you are. The voices mimicked can be as beautiful as a professional singer at will or as gritty as an old sea captain if so desired.

Now when it comes to the science and miracle of birth how exactly do these amazing creatures reproduce? Well every Bolkian can both impregnate and also be impregnated! It's really a choice they must make when wanting children. Fascinatingly, when a Bolkian is in early stages of pregnancy 1-2 weeks or so it has the option to sort of coat the unborn clump of Bolkian-to-be cells in an egg and lay an egg ending the pregnancy early and choosing to take care of the child in its egg instead of inside the belly. There are some risks to this but ultimately if the mother is healthy it should usually go down without a hitch. And of course if a Bolkian desires to become pregnant they can also do live birth option. All they have to do is ignore the 1-2 week mark and not create an egg. The baby will develop normally inside the mother. Being born later the good old fashioned way! How astounding!

But biology isn't the only interesting thing about Bolkians, wait until you hear of their culture!!!

Thank you for the brief.. (kind of) run down of our biology Dr. Ilix. And hello to you as well, how are you doing love? I am Nickolove the Bolkian. I also go by Nikki to friends and my partner Freyr. I guess, I default to male and use he/him for simplicity's sake. I use a more masculine but soft friendly voice with a British accent. I find that it puts people at ease.

Yes all of what Dr. Ilix said is true of our species. Being a Bolkian is quite fascinating indeed. Sadly, not everyone appreciates when things work differently from themselves. Being a Bolkian is harder than you would think. We tend to at times be shunned or outright hated by the single-gendered races inhabiting the world. We Bolkians are the minority, being only one of the very few races native to Andor that are mammalian hermaphrodites. However, luckily not everyone has such prejudice for Bolkians. I found my forever partner in Freyr, an intersex male demi deer. He definitely has no trouble accepting and loving me for who and what I am. I am eternally grateful to him, and I love him with all my heart.

When I was young, around 7 or 8 years of age I lived in a Bolkian settlement. It was a very peaceful, loving place we were an extremely close knit community. While I was in the care of one of the other adults (we sort of raised children as a village not just a couple), my parents decided to go out on a romantic stroll through the countryside. That was the last time I saw my parents alive. According to an eyewitness who escaped the scene, my parents were cornered, savagely mocked and ridiculed and eventually murdered in cold blood by Bolkian hating extremists... You know, my parents had always taught me that love was the key to a happy life, that hatred only embittered you and made the world dark. I really really believe that. So I kept on going, raised by that very same eyewitness, another Bolkian, who escaped with some injuries during the attack. She told me that when there was seemingly no way out for my parents, my father told my now caretaker to flee and warn the village, to make sure everyone else was safe. To take care of me. She could not bring herself to leave the couple behind but they would insist over and over until she ultimately had no choice and fled the scene to warn the villagers. She raised me, I believe to make atonement for her having abandoned them to their fate. I can tell it was a life changing revelation for her. Her whole world became centered on caring for me. I guess I can't blame her. I would feel very similarly in her shoes after all. Anyway, as I grew up, I made it my life goal to never ever lose love for others despite how dark the world got around me. And to this day I'm proud to say I still live by that philosophy.

For my parents I kept going, I kept smiling and I never ever stopped loving others. I really think that is what life is about in the end. The connections we make especially the positive ones. Was it easy for me? Heh, no, not at all. I actually suffered from severe depression, always hiding my real feelings behind a smile.

I often felt so very alone. I did until I met, Freyr that is. We really hit it off almost instantly and I was in love for real! After a few months of dating, we were married and it's been one of the happiness moments in my very long life. I've never been so sure about anyone as I am for him. Best of all Freyr fills my life with such joy and sunshine I sometimes forget to feel depressed. And that's what a real relationship can do for you. The right partner will always bring out the best in you, always encourage and support you even if it's difficult, and always be by your side, never doing anything to betray your trust. I found true love, I'm happy to say. The best part is, it can happen to anyone, all you need is to keep your heart and eyes open and don't second guess yourself. If the person makes you feel good in every way and you can't even see a downside, that is true love. Of course love is a two way street, and no relationship is perfect. But you take the good with the bad, and if it's the right person the good will far outweigh the bad. Love requires a lot of effort and even sacrifice, but the results are worth it. They really are.
