Personality: Mason is quiet and introverted. Though amiable enough when in social situations, he would just as soon avoid them altogether. he may seem like a follower, however this is not true; he finds it easier to go along with someone else than plot his own course. Despite this, he has a strong sense of morals and is not afraid to put his foot down to defend them.
Family: He lives with his mother, an affectionate woman who more or less allows him to do as he wants; his aunt, who is overprotective and sharp; and his uncle, who loves him dearly but is unable to relate to the starry-eyed boy.

In a dusky field, under a nearly full moon, a slight boy lies nestled in the grass contemplating the night sky. He is, in some ways, an odd boy, and in others very commonplace. His thin frame, so tense when surrounded be people, is relaxed lying there on the ground and anyone passing by would think that he just sort of seemed to belong there; it just looked natural. Not that anyone would pass by; the place was totally secluded ( one had to walk past a small creek and an overgrown field to reach it ) and he thought that must be one of the things he loved about it.
He was a pale boy. Part of this was natural, but mostly it was his avoidance of the outdoors at any time earlier than sunset. Then he would walk quietly to his special place, sometimes armed with a notebook and handheld telescope, sometimes alone, to watch the sky. He could not say what it was he hoped to see... or even if he did, indeed, hope to see anything out of the ordinary at all. All he could say when asked ( and he was, quite frequently. No matter how much he tried to keep his restless prowling a secret, his family and the kids at school seemed to know about it. ) ; he would explain, slowly; haltingly, that under the stars, things did not seem so pressing. When he was outside, he knew things were going to be alright. Inevitably, he would give up when he saw a look of confusion cross his listeners face.
His eyes, nearly black, narrowed excitedly and he murmured, "Beautiful... So beautiful" as a comet hurtled majestically across the velvety canvas beyond it. He made a mental note to write that down in his notebook when he could bear to end this perfect moment by returning to his house. He shot upright, his body gaining some of the tension it usually bore, and craned his neck to keep the comet in his field of vision for as long as possible. When it disappeared completely, he laidback down, his hands laced behind his head, and sighed, not unhappily.
Before long, he had to focus on the cold brightness of individual stars. Silky pink and dull grey tinged the edges of the sky. Reluctantly, he admitted to himself that the sun was rising.
It was time to head home, to deal with the mundane troubles of an overprotective aunt, too much homework and the dull ache of being away from his special place. He climbed to his feet, ran his fingers through his black hair and walked past the unruly field, over the little creek and home.
