As soon as I saw a dog and cat on the sign, I started to freak out. “Oh my god, I get a dog!” I yelled excitedly, hardly able to contain myself. “Yes!” said my step parents, happy that I was happy. After we signed the paperwork, we got to look at the dogs. I wanted to take every single one home. I passed the puppies cages, not really sure whether I wanted one or not. I knew the puppies were sure to get a home, so I wanted to look at the adult dogs before I went for the puppies. The adult dogs were the best in my opinion. They were pretty quiet except for a few younger ones. I walked past every cage critically until I saw one at the very end. The dog looked as if it had just past its puppy stage, and was about 2 or 3 years old. It had a dark gray coat, with a bit of brown at the tips. I had a feeling it was mud. The tail was fluffy, and his eyes were my favorite. The eyes were two different colors: a dark blue and a brown. The pup stood up and came to me, looking me over. I glanced at the name tag and it read Choku. I smiled at the pup, turning around to my parents. “I want this one.” “Are you sure?” said a voice near her. It was a man’s voice. He was looking at her skeptically, and said, “This one isn’t very friendly.” I looked at him incredulous and said, “Let him out. See what he does. If he comes to me and lets me pet him, I can take him. If he doesn’t, I won’t. Deal?” The man nodded, looking at me as if I were an idiot. I ignored him. After a few seconds the man had the gate open. Choku stepped out and came to me. I got down on my knees and patted him softly. “Good boy,” I murmured, scratching him behind his ears. The man chuckled at me and said, “Fine, since you totally proved me wrong, you can have him and another for free.” I turned and looked at my step parents, and they nodded at me encouragingly. I grinned and said, “Choku, who do you like around here?”
