Story and Credits
Hidden deep within Peka Glade a sacred grove can be found nestled between twisting willow trees. Water lilies of every size, some topped with lotus flowers others growing without, decorate the sparkling waters. All sorts of creatures call this grove home, and their stirrings can be seen in every corner if you have a watchful eye. In the dusk of the evening unusually large fireflies can be found swirling through the temperate air as the last of the sunlight glistens through the wispy canopy.
In the cool waters of the pond below, a small purple frog named Waterlily can often be found floating in lazy circles, while gazing wonderingly into the dappled canopy above. Most of her evenings are spent absorbed in quiet contemplation. During the day however she can be spotted sheltering from the heat, huddled below her favorite lily pad, or basking in the soft grass while listening to the sounds of the grove around her. Regularly she enjoys striking up conversations with the surrounding wildlife, and never passes an opportunity to do so.
Having spent so many seasons in the Sacred Grove, and possessing such a friendly and quizzical disposition, Waterlily has become friends with lots of the passing creatures. Perhaps at first they thought the little frog was strange, as not many species sought conversations beyond their own kin. But nowadays many of them return to visit in order to share and seek news, ask for advice, or simply participate in a lively discussion. Her name is known across Subeta by critters from all walks of life.
Curiously Waterlily happens to be the only frog of her kind who calls the hidden grove home. There are other frogs in the pond to be sure, but none of them are of her lineage, and hardly any of them speak her dialect. Sadly she has never known her family or how she ended up in this particular grove. But that’s not to say she is entirely alone. While there may not be another frog who she can communicate with clearly, there are lots of other creatures to be found who speak her same language. Kolohe, her best friend and closest companion is one of them, and has been by her side as far back as she can remember. Other creatures such as certain turtles, many passing butterflies, specific species of birds, and even once a fish had spoken to her in her same tongue.
On the quiet days when no visitors appear Waterlily happily spends them with Kolohe. Together they seek adventures, swim, and bask in the sun. Sometimes Waterlily wonders what else the world has to offer, and if she should venture beyond the Grove. But she has only to gaze up into the canopy dotted by fireflies, breathe in the fresh Grove air, and listen to the sounds of her friends all around her, to know that this was where she truly belongs.<3
