Aria's Sight

A power believed to be a blessing from the Goddess, Aria. It allows one to see the magic within objects and people. Magic is usually perceived as an aura. The color depends on the elemental affinity, and the intensity depends on the strength.

This divine blessing is in actuality a distortion of the person's connection to the world's Flow. As a result, they are much more in tune with the elemental forces surrounding them. Aside from seeing the glow of magic, they can also sense when it is used nearby. As this cognition is abnormal, however, they sense these as pain, or discomfort. In extreme cases, such as natural disasters occuring naturally, the shock of it can cause death.

People who have this gift tend to see it more as a curse. The world is rife with magic, after all, and those who are granted Aria's Sight do not live long after receiving it. The short years remaining to them are a long procession of headaches and sleeplessness... if they're lucky.

Their unstable connection with the Flow makes it risky for them to channel magic. Even attempting to pull the barest thread of power can unleash an uncontrollable, devastating force that would endanger themselves and the people around them.

Fortunately, it's exceedingly rare. Such a corruption of a being's essence speaks of otherwordly influence, hence the belief that this power originates from the Goddess. There is only ever one user of the Sight recorded at any given time.

Many people believe that having this dangerous condition merits death. However, the Church of the Goddess protects these individuals when found. Surely Aria has a plan for these poor souls...
