Description

Physical:

Towering over all of Underland at an unheard of seven-foot six-inches, Ilosovic Stayne impresses what is perhaps the singularly most unpleasant, impassive and threatening human figure you could ever hope to face - not that he has much of a face left, himself. His features, once respectable, are now contorted with the scars he has earned at a bitter cost; a series of painful reminders of just how destructive the Red Queen's Reign has become. At the very least, he has taken the courtesy of masking the most awful of these monuments: a heart-shaped patch conceals what remains of his left eye. Though this may have been a request of the Queen, who simply cannot stand to be reminded of how far her dear Ilosovic, and likewise herself, have fallen.
Stayne thunders through the darkest regions of Underland mounted on a monstrous black stead, (the only one capable of bearing someone his size) keeping the terrified inhabitants of his world in tyrannical check with a single, twisted leer - the kind that can only take true shape through the nightmares of a weak mind.

Character:

As slippery and fiendish as they come, Stayne's reputation of cruelty and manipulation precedes him in every given instance - which makes his job all the more easier. As the Captain of the Red Queen's guard, the Knave has an unnatural ability to keep his demeanor in deceptive check - that is, until he deems the moment ripe enough to reveal his true colors of blood-red malice and fiery contempt. His facade of diplomacy is accepted only by the one figure of Underland to which it truly matters: the Red Queen herself. Iracebeth (Down with the Bloody Big Head!) remains completely naive to the Knave's true intentions, which benefit both well in the end: Stayne keeps his head and position of power, while the Queen dotes and simpers in a happy cloud of unfortunate misgivings.
It is rather ironic; for despite his title, the Knave of Hearts truly hasn't a heart himself - and one day, his lie will fall flat on its face in supplication before the queen for mercy.
It's a dreadful thought to think what will happen then.

Background

After years of hollowly following the White Queen's orders as an unadorned guard, The Knave seized his chance for glory when the Red Queen approached him with an offer he could not afford to refuse:
"Help me to end my weak-minded sister's reign," she had said, "and enter a new era of control. Together, we will lead my new army to victory, with you right by my side--with a proper captain's title."
The Red Queen made it sound so easy.
...but there was a price.
to install the necessary fear for her reign to take root, the submission of the most hated and abhorred creature in all of Underland was required:
The Jabberwock.
Greedy for power, the Knave recklessly went after the monster. Through his slight of hand and means of cunning, he cowed it too--but not without a terrible price. What remains of his left eye stands as a testimony to all of Underland of the extraordinary lengths Ilosovic Stayne, the Knave of Hearts, will accept without a second thought to follow an order--or perhaps gain a prize.
