Oh the brush of the artist! What dreams arise from paint and canvas. Whisper you secrets to me oh muse and guide my hand. Truly art is the greatest accomplishment of man.

Such is the unconscious prayer uttered in the backs of the minds that belong to painters. From those ancestors of ours that used cave walls to show the great hunt, to the modern day art student trudging to class. Paulistano, or Paul for short, is in the latter category. He has no larger ambitions than to wake up every day and be able to paint to his hearts content.

A native of Brazil, Paul is an international student at one of the better art colleges he could afford. His professors can see that he has promise and can go far. But they also note his lack of perspective. It is difficult to paint for a living, only the rarest of artists can make a livable career out of painting and so they warn him, they tell him to branch out with his studies. Learn something that will be useful for putting bread on the table. But Paul will not hear of it, painting is his life, he knows what he wants and by god nothing will deter him.

God took that as a challenge and set one of his own in Paul's way. One semester, the artist needed some extra credits or else lose his status as a full time student. And so he entered into Professor Occitan's Comparative Religion course. Paul was use to the critical art professors, but nothing prepared him for the hard nosed ex-priest. The course work was hard for anyone without an interest in it and Paul quickly found himself falling behind for the first time in his life.

Like any good student, Paul went to the professor for help. But Occitan's office hours were always filled and he was impossible to grab between classes. Finally, Paul caught him on the streets of the city and took the opportunity to talk to him about his course work. But Occitan was preoccupied and would not even give him the time of day. Paul persisted even after being told to go back to the dorms multiple times, causing his professor to get more and more agitated. And then suddenly, Occitan pushed Paul to the ground and there was a blinding light. Paul saw hundreds of evil looking creatures flying around Occitan who was holding them at bay. Eventually, the light and the creatures disappeared. Occitan dragged the shocked Paul to his feet and took him for some coffee.

Paul then learned that beings such as angels and demons and other mystical creatures were real, more than real even but in fact were all around us. Occitan had known he was being trailed by a flock of imps and was trying to protect Paul by telling him to leave. But now it was too late, Paul had seen the unseeable and would seen them from now on for the rest of his life. It would not be an impaired life, but it would be something Paul needed to learn to cope with. And so Occitan took Paul under his wing as his assistant. And so now Paul spends it days painting and his nights with Occitan hunting down evil spirits. At least his grades are looking up.

Years have past and things have changed. The bumbling art student who was so far over their head has grown into a street-smart mage with his brush as his wand and his paints as his spells. Able to stand on his own two feet and navigate the supernatural world with ease, he now acts as an unbias mediator when there are disagreements among the supernaturals. He occasionally still crosses paths with his old mentor.

Paulistano originally appeared as an anthro common lasirus, with the last two digits of his hands as part of his wings which normally he keeps folded against his arms. Over the years exposure to magic has darkened his fur considerably. His body and wings are painted with arcane runes and symbols in gold. His casual wear usually consists of a button down short sleeve shirts and jeans. He often wears a well worn flat cap and a brown leather jacket.
