A young girl is sitting at the kitchen counter furiously working on her homework while her new companion lays at her feet. Snowflakes are falling heavily past the window for the first time this winter and both girl and puppy are eager to be outside.

"Did you finish your homework, Sarah?" her mom asks. "Just about done...there!" Sarah replies, jumping off the wooden stool and handing her mom the paperwork. "Excellent! Now you may go outside to play before bedtime," smiles Sarah's mom. "Be sure to bundle up - and take Arret with you."

Sarah glances down at her puppy and grins. "Like Mom had to say anything about you coming along, Arret. Let's go!" Arret whines softly as his whole body wiggles at the chance of another adventure. Sarah yanks the back door open and Arret bounds out into the yard behind her.

Arret gives a little yelp as he slides across the fresh snow, his face disappearing into the powder. "Do you like the snow, Arret?" Sarah laughs as she watches her companion try to lick snowflakes off his nose. "Did you know that each single snowflake is different? However, when you put them together, they create something grand. The snowflakes are kind of like people - the possibilities are endless." Arret tilts his head to one side listening to the girl. "You are such a smart boy!" Sarah exclaims, gently patting Arret.

Together, girl and puppy spend hours outside building snow people, making snow angels, and snow paws until finally Mom calls them back inside. Cups of hot cocoa with marshmallows are waiting on the coffee table next to the crackling fire. Arret flops down on the rug exhausted. "Should we play in the snow again tomorrow, Arret?" Sarah murmurs. Arret replies with a snore.
