From the day the Subeta Defense League began protecting her world, Red was their number-one fan. She had every newscast recorded, and had every newspaper clipping saved in her album. She dreamed of becoming a hero just like them. Most of her classmates were fans of the League, but Red's fervor was a little weird to them. After all, they had outgrown the childish world of make-believe long ago. Red tried to keep it inside; she was pretty popular, after all, and it would be stupid to throw that away over some little-kid imaginings. However, every night, after she closed her door and before she went to bed, Red would create her own little world, where she was a respected hero and member of the league.
Eventually, the made-up world of her room just wasn't enough. She began sneaking out of the house at night, taking her adventures to more exotic locations around Subeta to enhance the illusion. After several adventures around the "safer" locales, Red decided her next adventure would be battling imaginary creations as they poured out of the Genetech Labs. She sneaked in after the labs were closed and journeyed around the lab, temporarily overwhelmed by her curiosity as she explored the lab. She stopped briefly as she glanced through a window into a room where small, helpless minions were caged up, just waiting to be fused into chimerical creations. It saddened her, but she was soon overjoyed when she realized what this meant. She could have her own, real adventure! The door happened to be unlocked, so Red crept across the room to the cages. Along the way, she saw a table topped with all kinds of cool items waiting to be fused. Well, I'm technically stealing these minions anyway... thought Red as she grabbed a couple of pairs of awesome headphones. As she approached the first cage, a cute furry minion looked up at her, smiling and wagging its tail. She opened its cage and picked it up, just as an ear-splitting wail cut through the air. "Idiot!" She said to herself, "Of course they have alarms!" She grabbed the minion and her headphones and ran as fast as she could. As she sprinted along a catwalk toward an open window, a guard shouted after her, "Stop!" She turned her head briefly, surprised, and tripped over her own feet. She flew headfirst, over the railing, into a waiting vat of nuclear waste...
When Red woke up, she was miles away, and could barely see the labs in the distance. She felt strange, but couldn't tell what was wrong with her. She looked down, and saw that she had changed color. Her paws felt kind of itchy. She started to scratch them, and ZAP! A huge bolt of energy shot forward, frying the nearest tree! Red was extremely excited, until she realized that she hadn't stopped shooting the nuclear energy everywhere. She didn't know how to stop! Suddenly, a soft, rhythmic song floated through the air towards her. The smooth beat calmed her down, allowing her to tone down the energy emanating from her body. She looked around until she found the source of the music: the minion she had rescued from the lab! He had changed color too, and seemed to have fused with one of the pairs of headphones she had taken. He trotted up to her, rubbing his head against her leg as he kept playing music, when she noticed that there was something in his mouth. It was the other pair of headphones, equally morphed as she and the minion had been. As she put them on her ears, they instantly began playing calming music, as if they were tuned especially to her. Red soon discovered that the music helped her control her energy into various different forms. As she and her new companion, Vibe, experimented with different music, she realized she could channel it in different ways: fast-paced pop music helped her convert it into raw kinetic energy for speed; light, airy classical music allowed her to enhance her agility and momentarily defy gravity with astounding leaps; powerful rock music was easiest of all, letting her unleash her powerful, radioactive blasts.
The League
Red began practicing in secret, able to pass off her color change as youthful rebellion. She soon was able to contain the energy on her own, and only used her music to help her convert it. Then, one day, the announcement she had been waiting for appeared on the evening news! The SDL, realizing the strength to be had in numbers, was having open tryouts! Taking the name Redirect, Red was a shoo-in, being one of the few applicants with actual powers, and, aside from the other new member, the only one who could completely control hers. With a huge grin on her face, Redirect was ready to begin her new life as a superhero.
