The Latest Adventure:
After becoming an otherworldly hero, AtomRay and his brothers have joined forces to protect Subeta as the Subeta Defense League!
The Beginning:
Ray thinks he was created as an Archan. At least, he's pretty sure, but it gets hard to remember that far back. There had been so many zaps that his identity didn't seem to have a definite shape. Don't take that the wrong way; Ray loved the air of mystery it gave him. He even let himself imagine that he was controlling the change, shapeshifting like some of the superheroes from his favorite comic books. He looked forward every few hours to a new zap and a new outlook on life. However, not knowing that outlook left him kind of...directionless.
One day, as Ray felt the Zapper bathe him in its light, he felt the familiar tingle as his atoms rearranged. He looked down to see...nothing had changed. That's impossible! he thought. I know what it feels like when a zap works, and it definitely worked that time! He ran over to the operator demanding to know what happened. "Clearly, nothing happened, and only an idiot would think otherwise," was the reply. Ray trod home, embarrassed. As he walked to his room, he noticed the doorway seemed bigger than usual.
"Great, on top of sounding like an idiot, I'm shrinking, too!" he exclaimed, to no one in particular. It wasn't until he looked up that he realized how true this was. Everything in his room seemed to be inflating, and the ground rushed up to meet him. "Holy Crap!" he remarked. He knew this could turn out dangerously if he wasn't careful, so he focused all his thoughts on stopping the shrinking. Sure enough, it stopped, and Ray found that with a little concentration he could return to normal size.
Sure, it seemed crazy, but if his comics told him anything, it was that crazy science experiments can sometimes give you superpowers. Besides, why look a gift Hikei in the mouth? "All right," he thought, "Time to see just how far I can take this." Focusing all his energy, he felt the shrinking begin. When he opened his eyes, he was smaller than the fibers of his carpet! Ray was exhilarated, and began jumping up and down. That is, until he felt a shadow creep across his shoulder. Looking around, he saw an ant, fifty times its normal size! Ray shook off his initial shock, running and growing to escape.
Ray managed to return to normal size. Before he could enjoy his escape, however, he doubled over in pain. Not only was he out of breath from shrinking and growing so quickly, every part of him ached. His bones felt like they wanted to crack, and his skin pulled tight on his body. Clearly, this power wasn't meant for normal pets. Ray knew that if he wanted to continue to use it, and become just like his comic book heroes, he'd have to have a stronger body. He knew the only solution was to have an armored body that could withstand any strain, even the vacuum of space: he would need to become a Galactic Endeavor.
Galactic Gems:
"Daddaddaddaddaddaddad!!!! It's the 6th! Wake up!" Hunter groggily opened his eyes, looked at his alarm clock, then stared at his eager Endeavor. "Ray. You're right, it's the sixth of the month. It is 4 A. M. on the sixth of the month. We are not going to the caves yet," Hunter replied, still half asleep and with less than half of his patience intact. Ray's face immediately sunk. "Okay, fine. You can go by yourself. Just come home as soon as you're done." Ray's face lit up, he grinned ear to ear, and he sprinted out the door.
Ray was so excited, the time seemed to fly by. Before he knew it, he was covered in dirt and sweat, but had collected every gem he needed. He ran to Itallo, handed him the gems, closed his eyes, and smiled as the gypsy began the ceremony. The collection of gems circled around Ray as he floated high into the air. A brilliant light engulfed him, and he could feel his armor changing. Not only did he feel stronger, but he became more in tune with everything around him. He could feel the subtle changes in the air as other diggers, inspired by his transformation, hurried to complete their lists. As he settled to the ground, he thanked Itallo and left the caves. On his way out, his foot caught something, and he tripped. Sitting up, he noticed it was a Dream Gem, sticking out of the ground. It couldn't hurt to take a souvenir, he thought to himself. As he pried it from the ground, he noticed a cute little Gustiss as it bounded up to him. "Aww, you're a cute little guy," he remarked as he pet its head. "You should go find your owner before he thinks you're lost." As he got up to leave, the Gustiss followed him, trotting beside his foot. "Well, okay, I guess you can come along, but you better be ready for adventure!"
Microscopic Defender:
"Alright, time to see just how far I can go," Ray announced to the open air as he readied himself. "Dwarfstar, you stay here, I should be back soon." Ray began to shrink, watching the world around him grow. He paused briefly when he got smaller than the rocks around him, remembering the incident with the ant. He steeled his nerves and continued shrinking. All of a sudden, something weird began to happen. The world around him began to fade from view, fading to white all around him. With his last little pinpoint of vision, he noticed that Dwarfstar's markings on his fur were glowing.
Ray was scared at first, but kept going, determined to see this new frontier. As he kept shrinking through the white void, his vision opened up again. He saw a new world in front of him, similar to the world of Subeta. He was still a giant compared to this globe, so he kept shrinking as he descended into its atmosphere. He found a city, seemingly the only one on the planet, and shrunk down to the size of its inhabitants, expecting an awestruck greeting for this stranger who had descended from the heavens. However, the cityfolk were a little preoccupied. A giant monster was terrorizing the city! He knocked over buildings and lit the town on fire with his monstrous breath. Ray wanted to squeal with glee, but held it in so he didn't look like a jerk to these suffering people. He ran toward the monster, growing until he was evenly matched. "Alright evildoer, prepare to be stopped!" Ray yelled, attempting to sound heroic. The creature took one look at Ray, narrowed his eyes, and threw one punch, sending Ray flying through three nearby buildings. As Ray struggled to get up, he realized fighting in the town would only cause more trouble to innocent civilians. He grew a little bigger, flew at the monster, and carried him as quickly as he could into outer space. The monster passed out with the strain of the quick flight, and Ray landed a mighty punch, thrusting the creature to the deepest bowels of space.
As he shrunk back down, Ray was welcomed by the cheers of his newfound city. He wanted to return home immediately, but the joy and gratitude on their faces just wouldn't let him. Well, he thought, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Hunter will understand. After an impromptu celebration ceremony, Ray was welcomed into a home in the city, given to him for free. He opened the door, and noticed his minion, Dwarfstar, waiting for him! "Huh. Looks like you've got more to show me than I thought. Well, welcome to the team, sidekick!" Ray leaned down and scratched behind the Gustiss' ear as the minion gleefully wagged his tail.
The League:
Ray and Dwarfstar fought crime and disasters in the city for six months, turning it into a virtual utopia. When everything seemed to be at peace for good, Ray visited the mayor. As Ray began to speak, the mayor cut him off. "I knew this day would come. You need to return home." Ray nodded. "It's fine. You've done so much for us, and we can't keep expecting you to devote yourself only to us. Here is a communication device our scientists were able to piece together. It should reach you in your home dimension." Ray shook his hand and left, waving at his citizens as he flew up, past the clouds, growing until the familiar white zone enveloped him and he returned home.
Ray opened the door to his house, arms outstretched, ready for his family to welcome him back. "Well, don't we think we're special," sneered his brother Herro as he walked past. "Come eat breakfast, Space Cadet." Confused, Ray walked into the kitchen. "Alright! You look great! You did it faster than I expected," remarked Hunter. Cap just looked at him and nodded. Ray looked around, confused. He noticed the clock on the oven and the calendar on the wall. It was the same day he had left, and only an hour had passed! Ray didn't know if time passed quicker in the other realm, or if he had dreamed the whole thing, but he still remembered his six months as a hero, and wasn't about to let that go to waste. He looked at Herro, a Dark Matter Dragarth who could control various types of matter, and TropiCaprico, or Cap, whose encounter with Merana had given him strength, swimming speed, and a rapport with sea life; an idea instantly jumped into Ray's head. "So guys, I have this idea," he announced, "I'm calling it: The Subeta Defense League..."
