Thaddaeus Thorul grew up in the poorest slum in Centropolis, but you'd never hear that from him. In fact, everyone who ever knew that bit of information is no longer alive; Thad saw to some of those people personally. A genius by birth, Thad knew his intellect would not raise him above his impoverished life by itself. He secretly arranged for a life insurance policy to be enacted for his parents, then arranged a series of accidents that claimed their lives and gave him enough money to do whatever he wanted. He attended the most prestigious universities in Subeta, gaining worldwide acclaim as a genius in robotics, biotechnology, and any other field he decided to focus on. After finishing his schooling, he took his achievements and applied them to the business world, becoming a multi-billionaire business mogul, both through his own best-selling inventions and his ruthless business tactics.

Nowadays, Thorul is know for three things: his genius intellect, his thriving corporation, and his unwavering, deep-seated hatred of AtomRay and his Subeta Defense League. His vendetta on the League began as simple jealousy; while the heroes won over the populace by stopping criminals out of seemingly pure altruism, any charitable act on Thorul's part was seen simply as a self-serving attempt at popularity. This was correct, of course, but completely irrelevant. His true loathing drew from one specific event, forever etched in Thad's considerable memory.

From Genius to Evil Genius:
On the unveiling day of his latest life-enhancing, money-making invention, Thorul prepared to greet the press. As he opened his mouth and prepared to present it, however, their attention was instantly drawn to another event: the Subeta Defense League was hard at work battling a huge, mutated experiment, no doubt an accident from the Zapper. As Herro mesmerized the creature with his matter control, TropiCaprico launched it high into the air with a concentrated blast of water. AtomRay then flew into the air, made himself super dense, and delivered a huge blow, pummeling the creature far below. The meteoric fall of the creature caused minimal damage to the city; in fact, it had only one casualty: Thorul's new invention. As the press rushed to cover the event, one young reporter paused. "What about Thorul? Aren't we here to cover his invention?" "Nah," retorted another, "He'll make another. Besides, he's kind of an asshat." Thorul, in his supreme sense of self-worth, saw only one conclusion: those self-righteous League idiots purposely ruined his device, which would take him years to rebuild. He resolved himself to one purpose: to thwart the League at every turn until he could figure out a way to destroy them for good, especially AtomRay. He knew, as a simply non-powered pet, his inventions alone would not do it. He would need some help...
