The fun fair is where dreams come true

Xavier had always felt himself drawn to the excitement of the fun fair. The blinking lights, whimsical music, and the wafting aroma of churros combining, creating an atmosphere that transported him back to his young childhood. Little did he know that one evening, when he was least expecting it, he would meet the girl of his dreams.

It was a warm summer night when Xavier's shift began at the ferris wheel. He watched as the kids excitedly got in line, laughing and taking selfies. They reminded him of the first time he had been brought to the fun fair. His grandfather had taken the day off, and surprised him with a visit. Xavier went on as many rides he could, until he had gotten sick.

Xavier longed for a love as magical as the fair itself. He often daydreamed of his imaginary relationship while he was meant to be working. Winning his girlfriend the giant teddy bear of her dreams! Sneaking up on her in the haunted mansion. Buying her a cold Zoom soda to cool her down from the beaming sun.

One evening, with the sun low in the sky, the carnival was humming along as usual. The clowns were making balloon poodles, and a groundskeeper was cleaning up the latest pile of puke. Xavier settled in at the ferris wheel booth ready for his usual gig.

Setting the first group of people around the wheel, Xavier caught a glimpse of a young woman standing in line. She stood out among the rest, and he could hardly look away. Her long, flowing burgundy hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall, and her eyes shimmered like two emeralds.

The girl, named Ziva, had come to the carnival alone that night, after a rather disappointing day of ghost hunting. She had come to bring her spirits back up, and she loved to look over the city at night. The view from the top of the ferris wheel was captivating.

As she made her way through the line, the urge to speak to her was nagging at him. He had wasted too many opportunities by being shy. He wiped his hands on his jeans as she stepped to the front of the line.

"Excuse me," Xavier said, his voice trembling with nervous energy. "Would you like to ride the ferris wheel with me?"

Ziva looked up, surprised by the unexpected question. She looked him over for a moment, taking in his kind eyes and genuine smile. He seemed sweet enough.

"Sure," she replied, grinning, then glancing upwards towards the ferris wheel.

Xavier escorted Ziva to their seat on the Ferris wheel. His favorite seat with a bright orange snake on the side. As the wheel began to turn, they were lifted high into the night sky, soaring above the busy fair grounds below.

Together, they took in the pink and blue sunset and the blinking neon lights of the fair. Xavier shared his hopes for the future, which got her to open about her own dreams of starting a ghost tour. Their bond grew stronger with each round of the wheel.

When the Ferris wheel finally came to a stop, Xavier and Ziva didn't want to go their separate ways. Never before had they experienced a connection so easily. Crossing to the other side of the fair grounds, they exchanged numbers over corn dogs before leaving.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Xavier and Ziva's love grew. They explored the fair frequently, sharing stolen kisses hidden behind the cotton candy stand. Always ending the nights on the ferris wheel where it all began.
