"Don't eat all those gummies in one day, or you'll turn into one," his mom had warned him. Finley just giggled and chomped down on a gummy bear. He grabbed his bag of rainbow candy and skipped out to the backyard. She was kidding, of course, just didn't want him all hopped up on sugar. Finley's grandparents were always spoiling him with sweets. At supper he'd whine that he wasn't hungry. The trash can sat full to the brim with candy wrappers.

She had asked her parents to not buy him the candy. "Just spend time with him. Take him to the park or a museum." Yet again he had come bounding up the steps after a weekend away, with a bag of candy in his hand. So she made up the lie about the transformative power they held.
