The Goddess

When I was created, many questioned my worth. We had a water god and a weather god, what use was there for a snow goddess? Ironically, the ones that never questioned me from the start, were those exact gods. Anzelix had her doubts, but she trusts Our Lady and Her decisions. The Weather God, Shoal, came before me and bestowed upon me one of his magiks. He gave me the power over snow. The Water God gave to me the power over ice. They did not do so because it was asked of them, in fact, nothing was asked of them at all. These powers are gifts, and I treasure them.

Though, I admit, I don't have much of a purpose. I control the cold, snow and ice. Big deal. Every other god controls far more than just a few elements. Diskra has the entire ocean, plus all other bodies of water under his fingers, and Shoal has the power of storms and electricity. Anzelix can create life from nothing, and Railia can control flames.

But it is that last one that was the key to my creation. I am a fairly new goddess, created just before Railia rebelled as Our Lady's last hope to stop him. Though he can easily melt my ice with his flames, it will then turn to water and in turn, put out his inferno. He cannot win against me, and that is why Atlene created me. I am his opposite, his balancing force. And it looks as though I'll be needed.

Railia always made sure to keep far from my abode in the icy poles, but every winter my snow creeps closer and closer to his volcano home. This year, his fire must be put out for good, and I am getting ever so close to him. As the temperature drops, soon I will be able to reach his land, and he will feel the wrath of the Makeshift Goddess!

The Legend

Winter is upon us, and so are many holidays, but I bet you don't know the origin of our special gift giving day, do you? Oh you think you do, do you? Well, all those stories about a fat man in a red suit bringing goodies to children in the night isn't exactly how it went. In fact,

It was a whole lot different.

Before this Day of Giving, winter was just a holiday of taking. People took from others to survive, all took from nature to have a better chance of living, and nature took from everyone, sometimes their health and sometimes their life. All dreaded the winter, and spent all of the rest of the year preparing for its wrath. Snow fell only in blizzards, devouring entire towns at a time. It was a nightmare. I remember.

Our Lady Atlene saw that this was not a good time for her creatures, and thought on how she could make winter a better time of year. It was then that she created Valette, the lovely goddess of the snow. Valette's purpose was hope, and little more. Those that caught a glimpse of her would surely make it through the winter, while those that looked for her rarely found her. And rarely survived the hunt. However, Valette began to feel worthless.

It was then, on the eve of this very Day of Giving, fifty years ago, that two special powers were bestowed upon the lovely Valette.

Shoal, the powerful god of weather, gave unto her the power of snow, that she may make it beautiful.

Diskra, the passionate god of water, gave unto her the power of ice, that she may make it glisten.

And to celebrate the gods gifts to our goddess, we celebrate this night and give gifts to our loved ones, that they may live a happier life.
