Laurie's story will be set in a period of extreme hardship, poverty, and whatnot. Think martial law, with curfews and a wide gap between the rich and the poor. Freedom's limited, as well, and so is imagination and art. Laurie will be a bit on the average family status, save for her diseased mother and father who works for the sole government controlling the area (although they don't get much pay).

Her father is a mechanic; Laurie's the only child, so he decides to pass on his skills to her. Laurie, once old enough, begins to tinker and make mechanical creations. She eventually attempts to infiltrate the government speakers and play music made by her instruments for around five minutes, once a day, before giving out the station for the next one.

In a nutshell, the government will get mad and track down the one responsible. They assume that only their employees could have such a knowledge, so they lock up all workers, and, when they find no one guilty, move on to the children, including Laurie.

Laurie will then have to face problems about surviving, keeping her identity, and making peace with the higher-class people who think of her as nothing but a poor girl suffering from poverty. She attempts to turn on the radio again, but eventually, she would get caught, and she would have to choose between saving her dad's life or continuing her rebellion through the other children.
