The Guard

It wasn't hard to tell who was the broken chain link in the Royal Guard. Zerineth never had the stamina many others in the Guard had. During training practices, he would need to take breaks while others continued on. A Common Lasirus from a poor family, out to make something of himself. If it wasn't for his dear friend, Ishun, he would have packed home by now. Late one evening after a day of marches, Zerineth sat in his room he shared with Ishun at the bunk houses. "Ishun...I don't know how much longer I can keep doing this. I mean, I'm no good compaired to the rest, I just drag the rest of the team down!" Ishun patted his friend's shoulder. "Aww come on now, don't say that. We need you just as much as everyone else. If you weren't supposed to be here, well, you wouldn't be!" Zerineth scratched his head for a moment. "Well, I'll tell you, I think I know how to resolve my problems here." "Oh yeah? How?"

The Idea

"You want to WHAT?!" Ishun had a shocked composure. He couldn't believe what Zerineth had just suggested. "You heard me, I want to sell my soul to the Darkness. Think about it, the Light is used by the priests to keep us healed, but the brute strength comes from the Darkness. You know I'm right. I'm going to do it!" Ishun sat there, in a daze. With a weary smile he clapped his close friend on the shoulder before heading off to bed. He managed a chuckle. "Haha, I think you need to rest, only the insane and the exhausted talk that way! Good night, pal." Zerineth knew that Ishun wouldn't like the idea. In fact, Ishun completely rejected it. But, the young Lasirus had made up his mind. He packed a small bag of bread for a snack for his night journey. He hurried, after everyone was at rest, and took off to the cracked earth that contained the chasm where he would plead the Darkness.

The Pact

Zerineth crawled to the cracked surface where the black embers rose. The earth had been torn where the Darkness resides. Zerineth made his way down deeper and deeper until he approached a broken temple. Inside the shattered halls were monks, consumed in their worship for the Dark Lord, who appeared before Zerineth. Zerineth kneeled, then began to almost beg. "I've come b-because I want to be stronger. I'm useless to the Royal Guard if im not. I've prepared to sell my soul for it." The Dark Lord grimaced down at the whelp. "You're twenty-two now, you want to give up your life at such a young age? No matter, another built servant wouldn't be troublesome. " The pact sealed, immediate changed were seen in Zerineth. Corruption turned his fur pitch black, blood stained with the blood of past and future enemies. His armour became tainted, losing the luster of the silvers and golds that adourned it, turning to obsidian and dark irons. With his upgraded sword, Zerineth bowed to his new master, and set back off to the bunk houses.

The Outcome

The next morning, everyone could see this new change. He was feared for it, even by his commanders. With new found strength and stamina, he plowed down any opponent. He gradually moved up the ranks, defeating even members of the Royal Guard. Finally, Zerineth had become the general of the Royal Guard. Tensions between Ishun and Zerineth never ended. Ishun hated what his old friend had done, and Zerineth new it. Zerineth was never able to abandon that guilt, as it led on with him through ranks. Ishun also advanced ranks, but not as high as Zerineth. Old friends for years, but now, only team mates.
