Story:
First YearKimmie sat quietly by herself in the compartment, reading her potions book. Her parents had made sure to get her there early, but it turns out she made it an hour early. She had looked into each compartment with curiosity, seeing if there was some sort of enchantment or charm that made the train special like the many buildings of Diagon Alley. But it was just a regular train with regular sized compartments.
After another forty minutes and a few chapters later, the train started moving. She didn't realise students were even on the train.
"Looks like no one wants to sit with us, Gigi." Kimmie said as she patted the yawning creature next to her.
Right after she spoke, a graceful, redheaded girl walked in, giggling. "Oh, sorry to barge in on you reading! There's just no where else to sit!" She took a seat across from Kimmie. "Hope you don't mind if I join you. I'm Elysse, by the way." Elysse said, flashing a smile at her.
"Kimmie." she whispered quietly. She wasn't comfortable with talking, but it was fine, because Elysse decided to tell her whole life story on the ride and it was somehow determined they were going to be friends during this one-sided conversation.
"Adamson, Hayley" was the first name called. She knew she was next.
"Anderson, Kimmie."
She froze until Elysse pushed her forward. She stumbled slightly and there were a few snickers from the far table wearing green. She sat down and had the Sorting Hat placed on her head.
"Ahh, haven't seen one of you before. Muggleborn, eh?"
She almost jumped from surprise. She quickly recalled reading about the Sorting Hat and its ability to talk to its wearer and relaxed.
"Where to put you, where to put you? I see you have a thirst for knowledge and would be well-suited for Ravenclaw. But I also see kindness. I guess I'll have to put you in... HUFFLEPUFF."
Second Year
First year had gone by in a flash and before she realized it, Kimmie was on the horseless carriage back to her home of Hogwarts. She sat next to Elysse and half-listened to her story of her exciting summer and looked across the carriage at Rorey, a fellow Hufflepuff, and his best friend, Adellea. They were talking about the rumours of the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. She smiled slightly and returned her attention to Elysse’s story about her encounter with the Italian boys.
“Professor Snape had no right to give us an eighteen inch paper at such late notice,†she mumbled to herself as she fast-walked back to the common room.
“Aww, look at the Mudblood talking to herself,†jeered a voice behind her.
Kimmie held her head down and kept walking. Hopefully they would just leave her alone if she didn’t say anything. She knew it wasn’t going to work, but she really realized it when a hand grabbed her shoulder and violently pushed her up against the corridor.
“Hey, Mudblood! Didn’t you hear me?†a different voice sneered into her ear. There were three Slytherin boys surrounding her.
Kimmie tightly shut her eyes and squeaked out, “Please, I don’t want any trouble. I was just on my way back to my common room.â€
“Did you hear that? She doesn’t want any trouble,†a boy in the back of the trio, said mimicking her voice.
“Maybe we should teach her a lesson she’ll remember…â€
“Hey! What are you doing to her?!â€
Kimmie opened her eyes to see a Gryffindor heading over toward her and the Slytherins.
“Back off, Weaver. This is none of your business,†scorned one of them.
“Doesn’t mean that you can do this to a poor second year,†the Gryffindor said. “I suggest you leave her alone before I get Professor McGonagall.â€
The three Slytherins exchanged a look and paused for moment. They backed off Kimmie, gave the Gryffindor a dirty look, then sulked the other way.
“Thank you,†Kimmie said quietly.
“No problem,†her savior said. “What’s your name?â€
“Kimmie. And yours?â€
“Arley,†he said smiling. “Do you need help back to your common room. She nodded, afraid of running into any other Slytherins.
They walked toward the Hufflepuff common room as Kimmie couldn’t help but begin to like this boy.
