What can I get for you today?

Ahh, my little bakery. I love it so much. Get up in the morning, get washed up, then walk down to work. I shouldn't even call it work, because I honestly enjoy every second of my day. The faces! Aw, the faces of the little kids when a smile sweeps across their face as they bite into a chocolate chip brownie. The parents who get a break from their busy lives to have a simple snack. I love making people's day just that much better. Sometimes I sneak a bag of bagels for my friends, but you didn't hear it from me!

My mom and I used to bake every Friday when I got home from school. I'd sprint to the house, and my mom would be waiting in the kitchen with the oven heating up. She'd let me choose a recipe from her cookbook, measure out all the ingredients, then let me mix it up. We'd pop it into the oven and read a book while it baked. We talked about opening up a bakery together when I was older, but she died my junior year of high school.
I pursued our dream bakery by taking all the baking classes I could find. Enrolled in college and found my best friend in the process. After our mom died, my brother holed himself away in his house. I don't know if I could have made it through those first few years without them.

Mariska and her brother, Khristophe, were very close growing up. She hasn't seen him as much as she would like to since their mom died. Her brother is terrified of zombies, and fears death, so he never leaves his house. She calls him a few times a week to check in on him.
