Sharmony's One of a Kind

"Careful, Agnes. Wouldn't want th' cauldron to boil over and dissolve th' floor."

Standing in the middle of a one room cabin is Agnes Brackenfeather, known simply around town as the Cat Witch. A worn leather bound book in one paw and an aged ladle in the other, she took care to stir her volatile concoction with the utmost care lest it consume the very instrument that agitated it. The brew bubbled in response, gurgling with uncertainty. All went silent, the only source of noise being a few crackling lanterns scattered about, giving the cottage a lambent glow.

Her tail twitched and her nose flared. She could hear her heart in her ears, her gut wrenching with each agonizingly slow second. Her grip on the ladle grew subconsciously. There was no doubt in her mind; it was going to blow. It would dissolve anything it could reach. Consume her priceless collection of artifacts, books and enchanted items. She'd never be able to restore her collection to its current glory.

One large bubble surfaced from the unstable brew. Agnes didn't blink. She didn't breathe. As if staying completely still would stop the inevitable.

The bubble popped. And then--


A volte-face.

Heaving a sigh of relief, Agnes stirred it a few more times before she was satisfied with it. This was one of the few food grade mixes she'd made, but it was a gift to the king and queen, both of whom she was familiar with. Potatoes, carrots and chunks of tender meat surfaced along with the spice she'd thrown in. The one ingredient that could've ruined hours of hard work. Agnes wondered what in the blue vanderbilts made her decide to test it out now, but with all having turned out well she was glad she did.

She slopped some into a container, then placed that container into a bag before embarking toward the castle. It wasn't all that far away. About thirty minutes on foot. Of course, if she were stopped by the citizens to do something for them she wouldn't hesitate to aid them. She was seen as a bit strange but otherwise beneficial to the community. If one were assisted by her for whatever reason, she would merely ask to see and hold their most valuable item. She did nothing else with it, only holding it for a short time, then returning it to its rightful owner. People saw this as strange though it was rare someone exchanged their kindness for free and it was appreciated.

Truthfully, she was getting something out of such strange encounters. Agnes wields a unique ability that allows her to see the complete history of an item. Whether it be a sword, necklace, book, or even a child's toy, she can see its history in a flash before her very eyes and retain that information. Sometimes the history of an item would spark emotion and other times it would simply give her an insight to the family or person whom it belonged. Even those who had once possessed it in the past. Agnes had learned things that nobody else around her knew from the viewings of these objects, which in turn made her both knowledgeable and even more mysterious to the townsfolk.



Her walk to the castle was quaint. The streets seemed quiet so she was unbothered, left to her own business. Halfway to her destination, she was joined by her familiar, a purple owl by the name of Salem. He fluttered above her arm before he landed on it gently and cooed. Agnes smiled and did her impression of a coo back.

"Why don't ye fly behind me? I'm visitin' the castle."

Salem hooted and flew back into the air, circling around his master as she continued her walk.
