The old carnival was a bit of an eyesore. It had been abandoned several years before, after it had been allowed to fall into disrepair. Everything was now covered in layers of rust and graffiti from the miscreants who would occasionally break in. The bright colours that had once brought life to the grounds had faded to a dull imitation of their former selves.

There was a line of tents near the back of the carnival. Once they had entertained hundreds of children with games like ring toss, skeeball and mallarchy pond. Brightly coloured plush toys had lined their walls waiting to be taken home by whoever was lucky enough to win them.

The booths had long been cleared of all of these prizes. All but one. A lone tiger had been accidentally dropped under a counter on that last day, and no one had noticed. Catheryn- a name she'd once heard and decided to use for herself- still lay where she had fallen all those years ago. Her stunning white coat had turned a muddy brown in the elements, her plastic eyes were coated in gunk. She was helpless.

Then, one day everything changed. A storm unlike any the area had ever seen swept through the carnival. The winds howled and the rains flooded the grounds. And the little tiger was washed away from her booth.

When the storm ended, Catheryn found that she had been carried outside of the rusted fences of the carnival and was now alone and exposed in a field. All she had ever known was gone.

As the sun rose, Catheryn realised that something wonderful had happened. The storm had washed some of the dirt off of her eyes, and for the first time in years she could see the sun. She could see the blue sky and the green grass. She had been hidden away under the counter for so long she had forgotten how beautiful the world really was.

And then everything changed once again. A human had been walking across the field to take a shortcut. She had nearly stepped on the tiger but noticed her at the very last moment. The human picked her up to examine her. With the first living contact she had had in many years, a low purr had escaped Catheryn's throat. The human jumped in surprise, but then hurriedly took off her jacket and wrapped the tiger in it for warmth. The human began to walk, cradling Catheryn in her arms.

All the little tiger could hope was that maybe- just maybe- she was finally going home.
