SOPA!
I'm sure you've noticed that today Subeta, and lots of other sites are protesting SOPA.
I touched on it lightly a few weeks ago, but SOPA (and it's senate alternative PIPA) are bills currently in development in the United States that would kill artistic freedom, and really the whole internet as we know it. Imagine if SOPA had passed five years ago, youtube would have never existed and you wouldn't have some of the most awesome videos wouldn't have ever existed. DeviantArt, Twitter, Tumblr, and most importantly, Subeta could never exist under SOPA/PIPA.
So please, Take Action today. Call your senator and your congressional representative and tell them that how you feel about SOPA. If this is your first call to a representative, here is a handy guide!

Contact your local State Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or similar branch of government. Tell them you oppose SOPA and PIPA, and any similar legislation. SOPA and PIPA will affect sites outside of the United States, and actions to sites inside the United States (like Wikipedia) will also affect non-American readers -- like you. Calling your own government will also let them know you don't want them to create their own bad anti-Internet legislation.

I can't believe this thing even exists, let alone that there are people that actually SUPPORT passing it. It's just so ridiculous.
I want to post this because people seem to be a bit confused but... SOPA is actually still alive and active. They never shelved it. They refined it. SOPA and PIPA are two different bills one by congress one by senate. BOTH want the same thing. There is also a bill called The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, or ACTA, is a multi-national agreement with similar goals to the U.S.-only PROTECT IP and SOPA bills. It is criticized for many of the same reasons that PROTECT IP and SOPA are, but is also concerning because it has been drafted in secret.
If SOPA and PIPA are passed anyone who posts copyrighted work could face a minimum of five years in prison if convicted. That's just for ONE picture or link. So if someone did this 4 times they would spend life in prison!
We would have more people in prison for using the internet than for murder.

Good luck guys! In South Africa, an Information secrecy bill sadly got passed, enabling our government to basically declare anything as "sensitive information", essentially suppressing the media. I guess this is the way the world seems to be going unfortunately :/
I didnt care about this till this morning when I was watching Big Brother Argentina live feeds & they decided to have a little "What is SOPA" advert for about 13min
Love that Subeta is in on the protest against SOPA (then again I would expect no less if you awesome sauces :D) I live in Virginia and did call both offices of Webb and Warner, the lady in Warner's told me that he has been against it from the start and the lady at Webb's said at the Richmond office they don't know Webb's stance as he is located in DC. Just thought I'd toss that out there! They basically do just ask you what your stance is and your zip code to then send the information to Washington.
Goddamn, this is annoying. -_- Someone's getting a phone call or two...or 10...later. I'll bring this up at my choir practice tonight and get all 100 or so of them to call too.
Fortunately SOPA seems to have died a bureaucratic death (permanently shelved). PIPA, her little sister, is the new fight. Call your Senators, folks! If they're in favor of PIPA, let them know you, the constituent, aren't. If they're opposed to it, thank them for representing your interests and encourage them to keep fighting the good fight.

GoDaddy is a HUGE supporter and I tweeted you a few weeks ago asking if you were going to switch your domains from GoDaddy which Subeta is run on. You said you would and well you didnt.

It's important that SOPA/PIPA are stopped. Currently similar texts are being thought of in Europe and if the action is important enough it will certainly discourage them too !

I really hope this doesn't pass. I thought it was a joke when I first heard about the bill, because it sounded so ridiculous. And it is. I don't want the United States government to start acting like China's government. D< 'Gads.

Well, I heard somewhere that Obama is really against this. But everyone should still sign a petition against these two acts and should still call their senators.

As Canadians we are not able to sign any petitions because they want you to be a US citizen/resident. I personally don't think its fair that the US get to make decisions that effect what sites I can access when I have no vote in the process. If you guys no of any sites we can go to to sign up, you should post them to let us know.
Although I fully support this protest, being Australian, it says my zip code is invalid...however...I did live in the States for a while. types in old zip code

I agree thank you for bringing light to it. Many non USA members do not seem to understand that it will impact them also if the bill gets passed. This is part of the problem of the high ages of our elected officials They have no idea on the current state of affairs or tech of the nation
I'm Canadian too, and I think that Subeta's promoting awareness of this issue is great. I support the protest, because it'll affect us, too. Let's hope today's wide-spread protest actually makes an impact in the vote later in the month. :(
There are also places where non-US citizens can take action against this! Please don't think 'I can't do anything, I'm not American' - this affects the world wide web. That means everyone. Everyone has a right to vote.
Doesn't work if your Canadian though and that censored bar is driving me nuts as there is nothing I can do to help you guys with that.
